Great game for Vazquez and Thome inching closer to 500 with a three run bomb.

I remember when we used to do that in the playoffs.

Sigh.

I'm a little disappointed in Javy...after seeing his stuff in that first inning, I thought he was going to pitch a perfect game. I guess a complete game is good enough.

Vazquez is fine; he pitched a gem today. What can one say? The starting pitching has been solid all year.

Man, I know that the team is still on the brink of having a trip to Sellerville, but if they got a little bullpen help, they could get dangerous. Nice to see the offense back.:bandance:

At least for four innings. We shut it down late in the game again, which is a continuing concern.

Still, we'd have a much better record if we could score five runs every day.

I have a feeling that KW is waiting until the completion of the Minn series to decide on the fate of this roster. If the Sox take three of four from Baltimore and win the Min series two of three, he's going to take a long look at keeping his roster intact. I bet the team is about to rally around the fact that they want to keep the legacy going.

What a weird year. Sox were second in starter ERA coming in and that just went down. Has any team ever been 8 games under with starters who have been this consistent?

Anyway, I've been critical of Javy, but that was a gem.

That's right. If they win 5 of the next six, it could get really interesting on the south side. It's a stretch, but it would definitely open some eyes, especially management's.

This might not be a good thing... Management has to look at the whole season (I believe they will) and assess whether the pieces are in place to make a run in '08.

Our top 3 have been phenomenal lately. If somehow Contreras can find a fountain or youth or at least remember how to get K we could have a rotation on par with or better than 05.

Buehrle's last 5 starts

47.2 IP 8 ER

Vazquez last 3 starts

23 IP 3 ER

Garland's last 3

21 IP 3 ER

Yay Javy! And that catch by Fields in foul territory early in the game...reminded me just a smidge of that catch by Juan in the World Series.

Also, can I just make a quick comment...we just got an awesome new 50 inch plasma TV and for some reason now, I am REALLY noticing the crowd. I couldn't help but notice the three women in the Scout Seats (maybe the 2nd/3rd row behind home plate) not paying attention to the game AT ALL. I mean, if they even glanced at the field ONCE, I didn't see it. As a lifelong (female) Sox fan, I am wondering....can there please be a law that if you have Scout seats, YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE GAME????

Thanks for letting me vent.

Ok my math must have a serious error in buehrle's last 5 starts because I'm pretty sure he didn't pitch over 9 innings in those games.

Well, the rotation is ranked 2nd in the AL after all. The only one that hasn't really been consistent is Contreras, and Danks to a lesser extent but that was to be expected.

Great game from Javy, even if it was against a pretty poor offensive team.

With Javy pitching like this I think it will be really hard for KW to move him, unless he's blown away by an offer.

Decent job from Owens today as well, 1-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. I'd like to seem him at least keep his head above water for the next few weeks so that he can get an extended look after the break. He's not even close to proving it yet, but filling the leadoff spot from within the organization would be huge for next year.

Somebody really needs to get Owens some steroids so he can start hitting the ball past the infield more often.

Exactly. Javy, save a few starts, hasn't been the reason the Sox didn't win games he pitched. Either the 'pen or, holy crow!, the Sox bats forgot how to hit the dangum ball. (Man, I do like the new Hawkisms.)

White Sox starters are now #2 in the AL in ERA. A good distance behind the Oakland starters who are having an amazing season. They're #4 in all of MLB. The 2005 starters were #2 in the AL (though they were essentially tied with the #1 Angels) and #6 in MLB.

Wilkes sits down the first base line. We'll have to wait for him to answer for sure, but I think he might be getting them at the Tex-Mex stand down the line towards the rightfield corner. They had a soft taco there (but I'm not sure if this is the super taco he's talking about) that's pretty loaded up and good.

Great game Javy. I wonder what our pitchers' records would be if they got run support in most of their starts in May and June. We have 3 pitchers with ERAs in the 3 range and they are a combined 16-14.

They're at the "Triple Play Cafe" located just before the right field wall. (Still in the closed section of the concourse) At $2.25 each, I challenge you to find a better food value in the whole dadgummed ballpark. Loaded with seasoned ground beef, fresh lettuce, succulent tomatoes and optional taco sauce, they're the perfect ballpark food. You can eat them still in the wrapper and keep score at the same time. Try doing that with a polish sausage.

Pretty much all the Mexican food is a bargain. Hell, even the nachos are a good deal considering how much they fill you up.

first of all, thanks for the tip on the tacos..will be checking them out tonite or tomorrow.

As for Thome getting on a roll... I think so.. I was about to faint if they sent him from second on that single by AJ... do not ever send Thome if there is any doubt.. cannot afford another injury..

Anyway, were at Mondays game and I honestly believe I have never heard a sharper crack of the bat on cowhide than that homer into the wind to left field off of Big Jims bat that nite. you simply cannot produce a sound like that unless you are a monster like jimbo.. then last nite 415 going oppo... he is officially in a groove when he starts hitting bombs to left...

finish this week strong, sox , then get it together for the second half.. thankfully , no santana, unless somehow the yanks pay off the lord for a bit of rain today..I swear it is the first time the sox will miss santana in a series in about 3 years... now, lets get the O's and then Boof.

I was at a patio party and game once with a group, and the fiancee of one of the guys insisted on coming along. She brought a book with her and read it throughout the game. Some of us figured that she was only at the game because she didn't trust her guy out of her sight. This could have been a similar situation.
