View Full Version : Why so pessimistic ?

Well actually I know why, but why is everyone already giving up on the Sox this year ? Seems like a lot of people are counting them out, yeah 12.5 is a lot but I still feel we have the tools to succeed. I don't understand why everyone is acting like we are washed up, why we have no talent, we have talent, we are just not using it. Hopefully the all star break also gives us a nice break, a little look back at the season, and hopefully the guys realize its just baseball, have some fun while you play.

Just a rant, bring on all the insults, I'm ready. And no I'm not high, or smoking anything.

Because we probably have to win 60 of our 86 remaining games to make the playoffs. That is why everyone is giving up.

Not many team win three-fourths of thier games the last half of the season.

i wouldnt count winning 3/4 of our second half games...especially considering half our starting rotation will probably be traded off

Half our rotation?!?! That would be 2.5 pitchers. Who are we trading 50% of? Hopefully we keep the top half of whoever we trade and Herm knows a good prosthetics doctor so we can still march him out there every fifth day.

sorry if that isn't the right shade for teal....my monitor blows.

Boone is in the rotation now? :o:

he was the first pitcher that came to mind when i thought of trading half a pitcher...I posted without even thinking he wasn't in the rotation...if we trade enough people though....

No, it's not, and your monitor is no excuse.

Maybe we can ask the Cubs for Mark Prior's bottom half. It hasn't been used much lately.

Not to come off like a dick, but do you watch the games? What makes you have any faith in this team? Your telling me that at the break they will take a look at themselves in the mirror and go on a tear? Give me a swig out of that bottle your sippin on.:kukoo:

Sorry, I didn't read your entire post.:anon: In any event it would be beyond a needle in a haystack for the Sox to play any sort of consistently good ball for the rest of this season.

I agree, just curious if its ever been done. And I get blurry eyed at this time also, no harm no foul.

In 1914, the Boston Braves were 26-40 on July 04. The finished 68-19 (.792 ). They went on to beat the Phildephia Athlectics in the World Series. That 1914 team is known as The Miracle Braves.

In my case it is because I am a 'dark cloud'. :D:

Seriously, has this team over the past two years shown that it can rip off huge blocks of victories against high quality baseball clubs? (please don't point to the Chicago White Sox emasculating the NL Central last year)

Playing almost .800 ball from 4th of July is amazing. Thanks.

If it is really all that hopeless, why not root for us to finish last, and give ourselves an opportunity to have some high draft picks in next year's draft?

Does anyone know exactly how much better off our draft selections would look with a last place finish?

What does next year's draft look like? Is there a future All Star shortstop, and leadoff man in that class?

If someone could predict that with any certainty they probably wouldn't be posting on an internet message board, they'd be getting paid by some team to run the draft. Of course it wouldn't be the White Sox, because apparently we pick our draft picks with a dart board.

Im not giving up this early. Right now the team ERA is better than Det. and Cleve. Our starters are doing the job, the bullpen is coming around, if we get Erstad and Dye back and the team hits up to its potential it could be an interesting 2nd half.

Today is July 1st and we are 12.5 games behind Cleveland and Detroit and are like 7 games back from the Piranhas. We are finished. I know we have great starting pitching but you have to score runs to win also and we are very bad at that. I don't think Erstad and Dye will make a bit of difference, they didn't before when healthy so why would they now?

Because Im a die hard. Im 61 and when it comes to the Sox.Im like the kid I was in !956 when I went to a game with my uncle and the Yankees are killing us 10-1 and he wants to leave after the 8th inning. I beg him to stay cause the Sox have one more inning. We stayed and they lost 10-1. Oh well.

Believe!!! Sure we need to win 70% of the remaining games with an offense and bullpen prone to taking weeks off at a time but they just beat KC and Tampa, this team is going places. Hopefully KW keeps this team as is and they take their chances with their FA's to be.

Winning six of seven against KC and Tampa Bay is a good thing. The bad news is...those wins were against KC and Tampa Bay. The schedule gets much harder after the All-Star break. We'll find out then what the Sox are really made of.

I'm hardly a Kool-Aid Kid, but it's possible that this week could elevate them into a position where they will rise up to the upcoming competition and surprise some folks. Yes, the Sox will need a 17-3 stretch or something like that--and in a hurry--to be taken seriously again. It's not likely, but it's not impossible.

No, I'm not advocating keeping the team together in the faint hopes that somehow they can bring it all together and accomplish that. But until KW blows up the team, this is all we have to look forward to right now.

I hate leaving games before the last out. I've done it once, when my son was four years old, it was the second game of a double header, it was about 45 and drizzling. He was turning blue and crying. My father responsibilities took over.
