I loved those 1984 uniforms. That was one of my favorite non-Sox teams. I was working 160 Interstate-8 miles from Jack Murphy Stadium at the time, in the Padres' spring training home. At work, I won tickets to the World Series in a company drawing. When the Cubs won the first two games of the best-of-five NLCS, my Game 7 tickets appeared worthless. When the Padres swept the weekend from the Cubs and the Game 1-ticket-winning woman got fired, I ended up spending Tuesday night at the first World Series game ever played in San Diego. Jack Morris beat the Padres, but I loved those uniforms. I wish the Padres still wore them.

I saw those Boston roadies on BBTN, and they look NOTHING like I recall they really looked like. This version has the letters too big which looks like BOS TON. In real life, they were smaller and not subdivided into two words!

The Padres wore some of the most colorful, interesting jerseys and the Red Sox wore the most boring jersey ever.

In real life, they were smaller and not subdivided into two words!I didn't see the game, so I can't speak to the size of the letters, but there were some years where the road unis looked like two words, and 1984 was one of them:

In 1985, they fixed it:

I was flipping through Extra Innings tonight and it seems several games are featuring throwback unis. I had a bit of a laugh when I saw the Devil Rays of all teams participating. :D:

What are these "St. Pete" unis they're wearing? A quick Google and visit to the HOF website yielded no answers.

1955 St Pete Saints of the FSL vs 1955 Brooklyn as they honor Don Zimmer. Now why is OAK NYM blacked out?

I loved those 1984 uniforms. I wish the Padres still wore them.Dave Winfield would not share that sentiment.
He claims in his biography that those uniforms, as much as their typically sucky play, earned them the nickname of "The Turds" among opposing National League players...
