Kannapolis Intimidators (High A/White Sox)
Born: Feb. 15, 1986. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-1. Wt.: 210. Signed: Dominican Republic, 2005. Signed by: Marino de Leon and Denny Gonzalez.

De los Santos would qualify as one of this year's breakout prospects, considering he wasn't among the White Sox' top 30 prospects coming into the season and was unknown to most people outside the organization. But he's averaging better than 10 strikeouts per nine innings and flashing a mid-90s fastball with good life and a plus slider this season, so he's getting attention.

Does anyone know why he hasn't pitched since the 13th?

There was an AllStar break.

He pitched an inning in the All Star game too. That may have something to do with it.

Wow the game isn't over yet but De los Santos has some EYE POPPING numbers tonight.

8 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 14 K

Greensboro is a pretty good hitting team too.

I'm no expert on the minors, but considering he's in A-ball I would think at the least 2010.

Well he's 21 and in High A. I believe he can be in AA by the end of the year. And in AAA if things go well in the second half of 2008. Then in the spring training of 2009 at the age of 23 he should be given a fair shot at the major league squad.

He's in Lo A.

By way of comparison, Brandon McCarthy pitched in Kanny at 21, and went 8-5 with a 3.64 ERA; 94 innings, 80 hits, 21 walks, 113 strikeouts.

He was promoted to Winston-Salem and then to Birmingham the same year, made 20 starts for Charlotte at the age of 22 (maintaining his production) and then got the callup for the 2005 stretch run.

So the best-case ETA would seem to be late 2008, but lots could happen between now and then.

The White Sox have a long history of rushing pitchers through the minors.

My guess is September callup in 09?

This is his first year in pro ball and no one can touch him. The problem is he's really wild at times and has trouble holding on runners (lots of SB, CS, a couple balks). He's put up the numbers to warrant a promotion, and it's not like W-S is loaded with world beaters, so he must still be in Kanny for those reasons. There's really no way to tell how close or far away he is until next year IMO. If he does get moved up to W-S by the end of the year I'd imagine he gets an invitation to 2008 ST, so that would be cool because we could see him throw.

Well he'd fit right in on this team as Buehrle is one of the only guys thats good at holding runners on.
