Work forced me to miss the opening two games of this classic, but the 2007 College World Series (http://www.ncaasports.com/baseball/mens/brackets/doubleelim44/2007/DI_cws) got off to a high scoring start with Rice beating Louisville 15-10 in the first game while North Carolina put down Mississippi State 8-5 in the night game.

The Louisville-Rice was a great game. Louisville was up 5-0 after 3 innings. Both of those teams have great offenses.

Looking forward to the UNC-Rice game on Sunday. I hope this is UNC's year after coming so close last year but it is pretty clear the pitching isn't quite as good.

Aluminum bats. Meh.

Minnesota State has a very good D-II program; guys get drafted every year, and the D-I Minnesota Gophers won't schedule us any more, because we tend to beat them up. I told the legendary coach Dean Bowyer that I don't come to games because of the aluminum bats, and he said he'd change back to wood tomorrow if it was allowed.

Just in from Omaha, the UC-Irvine Anteaters defeated and eliminated Aaron Rowand's Cal-State Fullerton Titans 5-4 in 13 innings. The game lasted 5:40.

Gary Thorne and Robin Ventura were the ESPN announcers, by the way.

The UC-Irivine vs Cal State Fullerton game was amazing. The throw that the CSF left fielder made in the 13th inning to get the 2nd out was amazing--I only wish it would have helped them win the game.

My family and I was at Rosenblatt Stadium to see the Oregon State/Cal State game on Saturday night. It was great! A little hot, but, thats quite alright. Cool stadium. We stayed at the same hotel (Doubletree downtown) as the Beavers did and they players were just great to be around. You would never think they won the National Championship the year before. Fun time!

Defending champ Oregon State made it in yesterday, and it appears that North Carolina will face them in the CWS Championship Series as they currently lead Rice 7-2.

I expect the outcome to be different this year.
