June 16, 1997 - After numerous charity and exhibition games, the Sox and Cubs play for real for the first time. The overall record through the end of the 2002 Spring training season has the Sox ahead 137-91-6 including an amazing 10-0-2 in the ‘Windy City Classic’ played for charity from 1985 through 1995 (there were two games in 1995.)

I was at that game! Both teams wore their 1906 throwbacks and as I recall Jamie Navarro gave up eight runs and the Sox lost...I'll have to double check though.

I attended that first game too. I don't know why this sticks out in my mind so clearly, but I remember Brian McRae played CF for the Scrubs and led off the game. Other than that, Navarro's performance was brutal. Ventura was still hurt, so it was the Chris Snopek era.
