June 15, 1950 - On the biggest baseball stage, Sox pitcher Billy Pierce throws his first one hitter. Pierce shut down the Yankees in New York winning 5 - 0. It was the first of Pierce’s four one hitters.

June 15, 1958 - Sox pitchers Jim Wilson and Dick Donovan both fire complete game shutouts in beating the Orioles in a double header at Baltimore. The Sox win 3 - 0 and 4 - 0. Later that day the Sox acquire pitcher Bob Shaw as part of a four player deal with Detroit. Shaw would come up big for the Sox during the 1959 pennant winning season. (Shaw talked about the circumstances that caused the trade and how he found about it in his interview with White Sox Interactive.)

June 15, 1975 - A move made at the trading deadline showed great foresight by Roland Hemond. Hemond shipped Stan Bahnsen, who never recaptured the magic from 1972 to the A’s for pitcher Dave Hamilton and prospect Chet Lemon. By 1977 both would be contributing to the "South Side Hitmen." Lemon would go on to a pair of All Star Games representing the Sox and would become one of the best center fielders in the game. (Lemon looked back at his career on the South Side in his interview with White Sox Interactive.)

June 15, 1979 - With the Sox going nowhere G.M. Roland Hemond begins looking towards the future. He trades 3rd baseman Eric Soderholm to the Rangers for two players, one of whom is Chicago native Ed Farmer. Farmer would go on to make the All Star team the next year and become a top closer. His association with the Sox continues to this day as he’s been in the broadcast booth for the team since 1992.

June 15, 1983 - Sox G.M. Roland Hemond swaps second basemen with the Mariners getting Julio "The Juice" Cruz for Tony Bernazard. Cruz energizes the bottom half of the order, steals bases and provides stellar defense to help the Sox go on a rampage and win the division by a then record twenty games.

June 15, 2004 - Sox slugger Carlos Lee establishes the team record when he gets a hit in his 28th straight game. It broke the old mark held by Luke Appling and Albert Belle.

My dad was in the Bards room when Roland made that trade to get Farmer. At the very end of the deal the Rangers suddenly tried to get more and Roland apparently shouted into the phone "What happened? Did your guy get good all of a sudden?"

I can't tell you how many times I heard about this game. My dad, his brothers, cousins, they all reminded me of how great Pierce was.

I was surprised to learn that as well.
