I'm serious about this. At least one player has to go. Who is it?

I'm going with Jenks.

Jenks and that's it.

Jenks actually deserves a spot even without having to have a White Sox player on the roster.

Think about if he would have had more than 1 save opportunity in the last 15 games or so.

Jenks and Jenks alone.

I'd say Burls and Jenks. Although, since we're likely only to get one, my money is on Bobby.

I'd say zero. The closest would be Bobby but he hasn't exactly had a lot of work in the last, oh, season.

Jenks and Garland are the only ones who are even close. What a far cry from one year ago.:(:

This will be the year other teams fans will be crying because one of their favorites wasn't added to the team because a crappy player from the sox had to be on the team.

Bobby Jenks will be chosen, and he's deserving of the honor. He has 17 saves and two wins. Therefore, he has figured in 19 of our 27 victories. He has been reliable all season.

I don't think that any truly deserve it, but I think it will be #56 on the basis of his no hitter in April.

For the good of the American leagues chances of home field advantage I say Jenks.

If I were a manager I would select the top 9 closers/maybe Shields, Janssen or other solid setup men.... I wouldn't use any starters.

This game is more than an exhibition nowdays. If I am Leyland I want Jenks not Marky Mark.

Garland. It's gonna be hard for Jenks to get in with names like Nathan, Paplebon, and K-Rod in the same league.

Bobby J deserves to go if this was 2005 or 2006's teams, and without question should be the ONLY one this year.

Look on the bright side; we won't have to worry about wasting 3 days trying to vote a player into the All Star game this year.

Buehrle and Garland have been robbed of wins all season. Buehrle especially should go. Jenks has the ugly friend effect going on where he looks that much better by comparison

Britt Burns

Buehrle, then maybe Jenks, even though he has the 'prettier' stats. MB is always an All-star...always.

Buehrle especially should go.

Huh? So who exactly among Josh Beckett, Dan Haren, John Lackey, Justin Verlander, Chad Gaudin, Kelvim Escobar, C.C. Sabathia, Fausto Carmona, and Johan Santana should he replace? Oh, wait, that's ALREADY far more than can make the team. No matter how much man-love there is for MB in his walk year, he's NOT among the best pitchers in the A.L. at the moment (no-hitter not withstanding). He simply isn't. Sorry.

The ONLY Sox player worthy of the A.S. game is Jenks. Nobody else is even close. I have no idea why this is even a question (other than the aforementioned man-love thing) Mark would have to throw shutouts from now til the break to have any kind of shot.

I think Jenks, MB, and Garland have all been outstanding this year.

Bobby's the only player to perform consistently throughout this dump of a year. Send him and him only.

Is your definiton of outstanding similar to how everyone else would define the term above average???

Yeah, but pitchers only pitch one inning in relief during the ASG anyway. The AL could take five closers and conceivably pitch them in the 5th thru 9th innings.

I can't remember the last time outside of 2002 where I didn't see the starting pitcher go 2 innings, then 7 other pitchers go 1. Then again, I don't really watch the All-Star Game.

Not to mention there are FAR more A.L. starters having a better year than MB vs. closers having better seasons than Jenks. It's not even worthy of serious debate. ONE Sox player HAS to go. Thems the rules. Jenks is the only choice by a long shot. There are going to be 4-5 starters NOT make it who are having a better season than Buehrle.

Didn't Mark pitch the first 3 innings when he got the win a coupla years ago? Not sure. Like you, I barely watch the things. Usually have it on while doing something else.

Well 1/3 of our starting lineup should be in the future's game... Does that count?

How can you be "horrible" when you aren't pitching?

Nellie_Fox

Very few closers are going to be sharp when they are only needed about once a week. Then you get the problem of "do I use him in a lost cause just to get him some work, but then risk him not being available if we have a lead a couple of days in a row?"

Considering how we've been playing during the first half, I think we should send Andy the Clown and the Drummer Boy. As White Sox representatives, they can walk the aisles and ham it up with the crowd. This is about as close to the all-star dugout as any of the Sox deserve to be this season.

On a serious note, I would say Jenks since they are required to name at least one player from each team. Garland as a long shot. Nobody else deserves any kind of consideration.

Jenks for his actual performance, Mark for his no-hitter. Beyond that, none of them deserve to go.

Nor should MLB permit a team on the field if it's going to play this badly.

Why penalize Jenks for the rest of the team's failures? :?:

Nah. Mackowiak would be a better choice. Plus, he's more versatile. Don't forget his gold glove in center field.

A bit of bias here, yes, but Garland. Of course, I don't expect him to the choice, I fully expect it to be Bobby. Which I have no issue with. Honestly, though, I'm not sure anyone deserves to go at all.
