View Full Version : Dare I suggest... a knuckler?

OK so it seems that the opposition seems to be able to figure out our relief in short order. This MAY be due to Coop's perceived love of guys who throw hard. Yes, I know it puts more pressure on the catcher, but AJ is nothing short of great. So, what about something different: a knuckleballer? I'm not even sure who's available these days who can throw it, but maybe guys like MacDougal or Aardsma can learn it from an old-timer. Wilbur Wood and Charlie Hough can't be more than a phone call away.

Thoughts?

Did you forget that Charlie Haeger exists? :D:

I guess so. Don't watch the minors that much. That's why I said I'm not sure who. At this point, his MLB.com reported relief ERA of 1.29 doesn't look so bad.

i just wasted seconds of my life that i'll never get back when i read that post. teach macdougal/aardsma a knuckleball?? if they cant get a fastball over the plate, you expect them to float a knuckler up there consistently? a knuckler, typically, is gonna be a starter, not out of the bullpen, because of the ease of running on these types of pitchers. and please show me any system that has any seriously talented knuckleballers in their system, let alone 2 or 3. we already have haeger. hopefully he gets his act together and can be apart of the rotation. if it was as easy as just "teaching" someone to throw it, dont you think you'd see a heck of alot more ppl doing it? as far as the bullpen goes, we need to ship out dye and maybe contreras to get some solid bullpen guys in place for now and the future.

He was on the team for about a month or so last year...

Haeger sucks right now. I don't care if we're practically out of it. I still don't want this team to get worse than it already is.

Why the hell not call up Haeger? Can he be any worse than Sisco?

Is Wassermann (Sp) a knuckleballer also? Just curious b/c I thought I saw he was an AAA all-star too, but 2 on the roster would be a bit much.

There's already a Haeger thread going. You didn't need to bring back a month-old thread to discuss the same topic.
