One of the big reasons why teams passed on Porcello is that he will be demanding big deal, including a major league contract. He will take up a 40 man roster spot, and will have to make the majors in 3 years. I'm assuming that's a big part of the reason why teams passed on him.
I'm wondering if hiring Boras might end up costing him over the longterm.

A major league contract can be used to lower the signing bonus considerably, the risk is whether the player can actually make it as a legit starter in three years being both healthy and ready to take a place in the rotation.
