In Sullivan's article on Frank today, he writes:

At 23 Thomas became the focal point of a franchise full of rising stars like Sammy Sosa, Robin Ventura and Jack McDowell and established veterans such as Carlton Fisk and Tim Raines.

Including Sam-ME in that gang of "rising stars" doesn't jibe with my recollections of the team back then. Sosa was a low-average, high-K kind of guy even back then.

Is Sully full of it, or what?

No way was Sosa a "rising star" with the Sox back then. His numbers were awful, and he absolutely resisted coaching. The only promise he showed as far as I was concerned was with his throwing arm, and even then he constantly overthrew the cutoff man and allowed runners to take the extra base.
