Maybe the stock guys here at WSI can translate what is happening.

John Henry's Boston Red Sox are in first place in baseball's American League East. But his investment firm is on a losing streak that has investors rushing for the exits.
Amid dreadful performance for more than a year, Merrill Lynch & Co. is pulling about $600 million of investment funds from Mr. Henry's firm at the end of this month. The move by Merrill, which has had an 11-year relationship with the firm, leaves John W. Henry & Co. (http://www.jwh.com/) with just about $500 million. About a year ago, Mr. Henry's firm, a managed-futures adviser -- a hedge-fund-like operation that bets on commodities, currencies, bonds and stocks, in Boca Raton, Fla. -- managed more than $2.5 billion.

It sounds like his firm is having some performance issues, but I'm sure that Henry's personal finances are just peachy.

I guess he'll just have to raise ticket prices.

Sounds like they are shorting the wrong equities to me, just glancing at it...

He's been on the wrong side of just about every trade he's made this year. He makes big bets in the energy and currency markets and they're all turning out to be losers. This in turn rattles his investors, they start pulling their money out.

maybe he's as stupid in bizness as he is in baseball.

What is really sad is we in Boston don't even think twice about paying $90 for a good seat

Like most of the east coast, Boston generally does not live in the reality that the rest of the world does.

That article in the paper does a pretty good job of summing up his problems. When your largest fund is down almost -10% this year and the S&P is about +10% this year, you aren't doing very well.

I think Merril Lynch was probably holding out for a bit, but if you look at that fund, it has been pretty awful for about 3 years, while the S&P has been doing well over that same time. The worst part about it is that he seems to be really stubborn about the composition of his funds. He seems to be not willing to admit that his funds blow and that it might be time to change some of the composition of the funds.
