I hope Extra Innings makes sure we get FSN Detroit for these games

I had the pleasure of meeting Ernie at spring training some time back. He is the only voice of baseball in Michigan.

Get a double dose of Ernie (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070521/SPORTS02/70521037/1048/SPORTS)

Fans watching the Tigers on television will get two helpings of baseball nostaglia on the microphone.

Tigers broadcasting legend, and part-time Free Press columnist Ernie Harwell, will now be subbing for Rod Allen this Thursday and Friday on FSN Detroit.

On August 2, 1981, in Cooperstown, New York, on the porch of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Ernie Harwell gave the following memorable induction day speech.

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/images/spacer.gif "Baseball is the President tossing out the first ball of the season and a scrubby schoolboy playing catch with his dad on a Mississippi farm. A tall, thin old man waving a scorecard from the corner of his dugout. That's baseball." - Ernie Harwell in his Induction Day Speech (August 2, 1981)

Wow, that's great. I wish that MLB.TV still would let people buy individual games. I guess I'll have to sign up for a month.

amen to that, especially with the clowns on the mikes nowadays, it was always great to hear Ernie who actually knew why were tuning in--for the game!

Totally agree. That's the reason he's been around for so long. The consummate professional.

It was great listening to him yesterday. Makes me feel like I'm 12 years old again.

Thought I'd share this with you.
