Still not a fan of mascots in baseball, although in Japan, the teams all had cheerleaders, which was nice.

This list should be limited to the Philadelphia and Milwaukee mascots, though "the NY Mets are my favorite squadron."

New York Yankees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Yankees):

Dandy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dandy_%28mascot%29) -- a large pinstriped (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinstripe) bird, named for the song "Yankee Doodle Dandy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Doodle_Dandy)," portrayed by a high school student in 1980 but was beaten up by fans who didn't want a mascot, and quit, leading to the elimination of the character

Cheerleaders don't fit into baseball. Where would they stand? When do they perform? We have the Chevy Pride Crew...why doesn't that count?

A mascot can relate to younger fans. Maybe you think it's stupid, but look at the smiles they put on kids' faces.

I know, I believe the Reds have them too. Still doesn't change my opinion that cheerleaders are better fit for basketball/football.

I took one of my friends to his first Sox game this April and when he saw Southpaw on the Fundamentals deck he turned to me and said "What the hell is that?! It looks like Big Bird on meth!"

Nice!

My vote is for the Philly Phanatic, if only for the snout/tongue combo. Hilarous!

Is Ronnie Woo-Woo really a mascot?!?

Billy the Marlin once signed a ball for me, which was really cool.

But I still need to vote for Mr. Met. Nice and simple, and gets the job done.

I was with my younger brother at Borders today and saw that they have a series of books centered around a family who goes to a baseball game and meets the mascot. They have them for each team.

The Cubs one of course didn't have a mascot while the Sox one had Southpaw.

I guess the author for the Cubs realized that a homeless drunk isn't a kid appropriate mascot.

I've never been a big fan of baseball mascots. However, if we must have baseball mascots, then I say Bernie Brewer is the best. At least Bernie's an ADULT, and the old guy does bear a resemblence to former Brewer Gorman Thomas. You can't say that about Mr Met!
Bernie lives in a Bavarian style house in Miller Park, get to hang out with five kinds of sausage, and sample all the adult beverages from the Miller brewery. Sounds like mascot heaven to me!
