These look like fast big storms but its all a matter of when they hit.. They are lining up across Iowa, Misso, right now.
No chance this gets rained out just looks to be an inconvenience.

The original forecast called for rain early and then finishing up by evening but now they have it pegged as a 30% chance of rain tonight. The storms will be spotty so there might not be any rain at all.

The worst of it should be out of the area by 5pm, if not sooner. The bulk of the really bad weather is projected to be east of us due to the speed of the storm moving and the daytime heating. The cold front should be passed us by the time the super bad stuff will be ready to fire.

Figures, last game I had tickets for was the April 26th for the Tigers and now I'm looking to get rained out again. Fourth game of the year for me, two of them cold, one rain out, and now this.

I quit buying tickets. :D:

I guess it's always better to have a home game rained out then an away game. This could change the rotation for the crosstown series.

I hear ya man. My last game was the 2nd game of the season against Cleveland where it was 38 degrees at game time with 30-40mph wind gusts. Now, I go out for a game against the Yankees thinking I'm safe from the cold on May 15th and now the severe wet weather rolls on in along with a cold front.:(:

From the NOAA.gov:

This Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. High near 79. West northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tonight: A chance of showers before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 48. North wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Your games with NYY are huge ( all 10 of them)

Honestly unless disaster hits the Red Sox, that means NYY is playing for the Wild Card and it could very well come down to fighting with the White Sox.

We need to stop buying tickets to the same games. That game 2 against Cleveland was brutal though. Absolutely the coldest game I've ever been to and probably the most miserable I've been while watching baseball. Outside of a lightning bolt striking me, I don't think tonight could be worse than that game.:D:

I just checked the Hourly Weather Graph on NOAA.GOV (my one indispensable online weather tool) for the area around Comiskey, and the chance of rain drops off from 80% to 30% between 6-7pm.

So it looks like we might get this one in, though there might be some spotty rain.

Just as long as it doesn't get called and rescheduled to a day game I can't go to, like the last game (Tigers) I had tickets to.

I still say the wildcard comes out of the central. Sorry but I don't see the Yankees having a better record than the Sox, Tigers, and Twins. 2 of them will beat the crap out of each other but one of them will rise above, IMHO

And the one that rises above will be the division winner (unless you have already conceded that to Cleveland as they weren't mentioned in your list:redneck ). The East is essentially two teams duking it out compared to the Central where there are four. Something like 90 wins could take the Central because of this. I don't see the Wild Card coming out of the Central unless the Yankees completely fall apart.

I think the Indians bullpen will keep them from staying anywhere near the top. And the Twins look to be falling flat. The Tigers don't look to have their magic touch, although they are a solid team. I still think the Sox will run away with this division and the Red Sox will take care of business in the ALED. The West? Eh? Wild card between Yankee$ and Tigers, money on the Tigers.

Don't forget about the Toons.

Last night as I was driving home from a class, I was listening to the A's game against Kansas City -- which the A's lost. The announcer was talking about the Royals being in a tough division, with more than just the Indians as it used to be. "The Indians, have a good team," he said. "The Tigers have a good team. The Twins have a good team."

The White Sox beat the A's two out of three in Oakland and came within a strike of winning the game they lost. Still the announcer forgot the White Sox.

Most people forget the White Sox.

Well if you guys get what we got down here, it will be brutal for about a good 20 minutes, and then it will taper off and be done. I had to run around doing errands today, so I got it twice. The first time I was in Pekin, and it started pouring when I wanted to leave, so I just let my boys play in the play area (McD's). The second time I was in Morton getting ready to run into a store, and the downpour just started as we stepped out of the car. So we got back in the car and waited it out - we would have been totally soaked otherwise. So I'm hoping that's how it works out up there!

They get a pass tonight. The system just stalled. At least they didn't wait until 10:30.

Wow, tomorrow? I'm sure they must have some reason for doing it so quick, but you'd have to think that's going to be a logistical nightmare (and a pretty empty stadium).

CHICAGO -- Tonight's game between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees has been postponed due to rain and rescheduled for tomorrow as part of a split doubleheader beginning at 1:05 p.m.

The regularly scheduled game between the Sox and Yankees will begin at 7:11 p.m. Fans should retain their tickets and parking for tonight's postponed contest and use them for tomorrow's first game. Gates to the ballpark will open at noon.
Comcast SportsNet Chicago will televise the opening game, and WCIU will broadcast the regularly scheduled nightcap. WCSR Radio (670 AM) also will carry both games. Tickets remain for both games. For more information, visit whitesox.com.

Those with tickets to tonight's postponed game go to Game 1. After that game ends, they'll have to clear the ballpark so the Game 2 crowd could be let in. This could be a traffic nightmare in the parking lots with crowds coming and going.

You can use todays ticket for tomorrow and that is probably it. Why couldn't use your tickets for Minn and Tigers for a later date. Today will not be any different. None of the emails from the White Sox say anything about being able to use your tickets for a different game.

Season ticket holders with season parking in the Red Lots (A,B,C,G) will be asked to park in Lot B for the rescheduled game at 1:05 p.m. if they are staying for the 7:11 p.m. game. Season ticket holders with season parking in the Green Lots (F & L) will be asked to park in Lot E for the rescheduled 1:05 p.m. game if they are also staying for the 7:11 p.m. game. Absolutely a pathetic call. This game could have most definitely been played. It wasn't even that wet, and the rain was down to a trickle. And even if you're going to call it, why wait until 9:15 when the same call could have been made much earlier?

I'm a pretty irate Sox fan. I can't see any reason why this could not have been played. There was no rain from 7:20-7:50 and afterwards it was a slow drizzle other than maybe a 5 minute patch of light-to medium showers.

Then they called the game after it stopped raining, and I see nothing on the radar that indicates they couldn't at least get 6-7 innings in. Of course, there's no way I can make the game tomorrow, and also that other Tigers makeup day game unless I play hooky that day.

Uncle Jerry owes us Sox fans who work an old-fashioned twi-night doubleheader, as he surely made up a substantial part of the missing gate with parking and concessions tonight.

The most unconscionable thing was that the Sox cut off the Bulls feed with 7 minutes to play. So not only did we not get to see a game that should have been played, but we missed the end of the Bulls game too.:angry::angry:

I told my buddy that the Yankees had the game called cause Jeter had to hit the Viagra Triangle tonight. (no teal)\

EDIT: For those wondering, my seats were 10th row in the right-field corner, and the field was DEFINITELY playable. In fact that was probably why they called it. I saw Bossard and 2 co-groundskeepers talking to whatever Yankee coach filling in for Torre, and IMO, total B.S. gamesmanship if that truly was the reason... It certainly wasn't rain.

Me neither. The Wednesday game against the Tigers was played even though there was sprinkles or drizzle throughout the entire game (and it was 20 degrees colder). It really didn't even rain very much beforehand today, and wasn't raining very much tonight either...It's not like we got a couple of inches of rain. Roger Bossard had installed the best drainage system in baseball. I can't see any reason either.

I think they are going to do everything in their power to get this game in tonight. This is the Rays only trip into Chicago this year. That being said, the doppler radar looked kind've ugly last time I checked it.:(:

I live right by the Clark/Division Red Line stop, so I'm just 20 mins away. I just don't want to get down there and have to wait 2 hours for the game to start.

From the looks of the radar I doubt if they play the game that it will get started on time. It just looks green and yellow throughout the Chicagoland area radar.

And me working at a golf course automatically makes me a meterologist :D: .

This is indeed unfortunate. This becomes a two-game series against the Devil Rays' two best pitchers. The 0-6 7-plus ERA pitcher in the middle will be skipped. The Sox don't skip starters this year and even go six deep when they are faced with having to run starters out on short rest. Konerko wasn't going to be in the lineup tonight, but I liked the Sox chances without him, and the Sox don't need the off day as much as they will no doubt need it in late August at the end of a homestand before going to play in Texas. There should be a law against Texas playing home games in August.

If Masset gonna start a game anyways why not tomorrow and push Jose back a day

Huh? Why would you push Jose back a day? THAT makes no sense. Moot point, anyhow. There isn't going to be any doubleheader tomorrow. The makeup game is scheduled in August.

Based on the way the Sox have performed in the last many years against crappy young pitchers they've never seen before, it may be a good thing that they don't see that guy.

I was thinking the same thing, that we would've lost 4-0.

I'm in a similar boat as you my man, except I'm coming from Buffalo Grove(a bit further). Wasted all that gas as well as about 4 hours of my life. And of course the makeup date(Aug 27) I will be back at school and unable to attend.

Edwin Jackson has two quality starts. While his ERA is nearly 8, if he pitches down to his average and a team knocks him out in the fifth, he's only going to give up 4 earned runs. Obviously, he's had better games and worse games. James Shields didn't pitch up to his season average Friday night, and he was a much tougher pitcher.

When the Sox faced Colby Lewis, I knew they would have a better shot against him than against Chad Gaudin, despite the Sox not having seen Lewis in Oakland. Digs at the Sox offense notwithstanding, I think the hitters would have a better chance at Jackson than they will have against Kazmir and Santana.

How much has it rained today in Chicago? I know it's rained pretty much all day here; you have to take into account the shape the field is in.

I didn't even have to rain for a long period of time. If they got the deluge of water, no amount of diamond-dri is going to get it playable if rain is still falling.

A 6:00 start on a Saturday night would have been an ideal night to wait it out a bit.

I was there in Sec 154 when Gene Honda made the announcement at the game. The field looked saturated from the day's earlier raine. Waiting it out doesn't matter if the field was already saturated.

After sitting through a 2-3 hour rain delay on opening day last year, where I believe it rained a lot harder and longer than today, I figured anything was possible.

The only reasons that game wasn't called was that it was opening day and it was an ESPN game.

What happened to the "state of the art" drainage system that was installed?
We've always been told it can suck the rain out of the soil and down the drain.

It was total bull**** that this game got called! It didn't rain from 6- now. I was in the neighborhood starting at 3pm, it rained for about 2 hours. THATS IT. It was NOT raining when we walked out of the stadium and it never rained throughout the night.

No idea what the conditions of the fields were, but I was at the lot too, and just went home when they called it at 6:00. It never rained a drop from 7:00 PM until now. They probably could have played the game. Saturday night, start the game at 8:30-9:00. They do it during the week....why not Saturday?

I'm sure there's a reason they called the game. I don't think they would have called it for no reason.

How do you know that they could have played? The field could have been a total mess.

EDIT: You're right...
Spotty rain after 6 pm around Chicagoland probably had some Sox fans wondering about the decision to postpone last night's contest (until August 27 at 1:05 pm). Last night's forecast at 6 pm by the weather service -- with the White Sox, the Rays and the umpires all in the room listening on speaker phone -- was terrible with no hope for any windows, so at that point the decision seemed like a slam dunk based on our knowledge. I guess even slam dunks bounce off the rim sometimes.
...they made a mistake.
