Hey, Alan Embree is a decent pitcher (unlike Bill Pulsipher, who's a waste). The Sox were using him wrong, though. He sucks as a lefty specialist - when the Sox first got him, everyone pointed out that he was worse against lefties than against righties. As a middle reliever, he has value. The Padres might turn him into a good reliever.

I wouldn't quite say that by Marte's first season. He definitly has some good stuff and Sox scouts have been interested in him for a while now. Trust me, he is no Embree but is he worth the price of Guerrier? We won't know for a couple years.

There are some things to like about Marte. His K/IP and K/BB ratios were good with Pittsburgh and he's a former starter so he should be able to hold his own against righties. He also has better stuff than Embree whose fastball is straight as a dart. Embree was miscast as a lefty specialist anyway, throwing overhand with that straight fastball it's hard to be deceptive on the lefties.

Then why wasn't he pitching much in a sport with so little adequate pitching?

his results are the same as embreo's...whats the difference if a guy hits a 96 mph straight fastball or a 91 mph moving fastball over the fence....it all counts the same
