May 8, 1966 - New Sox manager Eddie Stanky gives an real indication that this season is not going to be like any other, and that he’s a lot different from former skipper Al Lopez. On this date after the Sox dropped a 3 - 1 eleven inning game to the Tigers, Stanky was asked by reporter Watson Spoelstra of the Detroit News what pitch Bob Locker threw to the Tigers Gates Brown in a key situation (Brown would get a two RBI double in the eleventh off it.) Stanky, who was preparing to change into his street clothes, went temporarily crazy. He launched an abusive tirade at Spoelstra while ripping his jersey to pieces. Then he took off his spikes and threw them crashing against the wall! The media were astonished (perhaps so was Stanky!)

May 8, 1967 - Sox outfielder Ken Berry is part of the cover shot for Sports Illustrated. The action shot’s caption is, "The Tangled American League. White Sox Star Ken Berry Slides to Avoid Mickey Mantle’s Tag."

Do managers still have baseball cards? It's been a while since I've seen a card. I have no idea if they do that anymore.

I guess you're saving the 25 inning 1984 victory over the Brewers for May 9th, the date the game ended. I always remember the 8th because at 10:24 PM, EST, my first child was born.

When I collected baseball cards (5 years ago or so) I think Topps was still printing cards for some of the best known managers.

1000th post! Biggest accomplishment of the day.

Absolutely they do. Topps still makes manager cards.

Out of all of the baseball cards I have, oddly enough, I have just one manager card that I can think of. It's my good ol' 1990 Topps Stump Merrill card.:redneck

Is Mickey Mantle playing first base there? I didn't know they moved him there.

My first born also was born today, but back in 1993. I remember the White Sox were playing Seattle that day. That year was special as I had a new child and the Sox made the playoffs for the first time in 10 years!! ...........:happybday :gulp:
