Nice HR by my favorite player, AJ Pierzynski. A bloop hit by him after a nice double down the first baseline by Ryan Sweeney!!! Bullpen was solid and good solid defense. Also, good job by Jenks, after that hit. Keep it up and keep them wins comin'!!! :D: :D: :D: :bandance: :supernana: :bandance: :supernana:

Great win. Nice to see the offense battle back. Bobby, other than the walk, did an excellent job of mixing his fastball and curve.

Our best win of the season, IMO. Great job by coming back in the 8th inning. Our two out hitting in the 10th was also very nice to see.

Back at .500. Let's win tomorrow and never speak of the .500 mark again.

With our pitching, we pretty much need just one or two guys to hit a game and we're golden. I don't even want to think how good our record would be if most of the Sox were hitting like they should be.

With AJ driving in the last 3 runs and pulling the Sox from what seemed to be offensive oblivion, I'm sure this game doesn't hurt Angels fans one bit. Not really.

Colon was dealing, but the bottom of the order seemed to figure him out late. The vaunted Angels bullpen gave up the tying and winning runs while the Sox bullpen shut the Angels down, despite people feeling nervous.

This was a great win, and 2 of 3 in Anaheim isn't as good as October 2005, but it ain't bad.

So far this year if it wasn't for our pitching, I think I would just be checking the box score the next morning. The pitching keeping us in every game is what keeps me watching.

I think things will change when Thome gets back and if Sweeney can finally solidify LF for us and not make us worry if Pods is coming back or not.

I think AJ's home run was the single biggest hit of the year so far for the Sox. That really got us off the deck. It looked like we were beat. Colon was rolling through seven, and he had a low pitch count. All of a sudden, a couple hits and he leaves because of injury. It should build confidence that we got to Shields and Rodriguez. Those are a couple of good relievers we beat right there.Nice win. We totally stole one today. Now, everyone can relax and enjoy the off day. Let's do some damage in Minnesota!

TDog
05-06-2007, 08:21 PM
It occurred to me that in Game 2 of the 2005 ALCS, AJ was the pivotal hitter for the Sox (non-Sox fans forget about Crede) and Quinlan was the offense -- against Buehrle -- for the Angels that made the AJ at bat necessary. Today, AJ (on his day off, no less), was the offensive star for the Sox and Quinlan, against Buehrle, almost beat the Sox single-handedly today.

It's just funny how things work out, especially considering these teams don't play against each other that much.

I'll believe that when I see it. Gardenhire is so obsessed with the Sox that there is a chance he starts Santana against us Tueday and Thursday.

I didn't get to see any of the game today, but it was great to have a comeback win like this. Our starting pitchers were far from great this series (against a ****ty Angels lineup), but they were respectable. Hopefully the offense uses the last two games as a springboard and gets its act together. Lets punish those damn Twins.

Postseason: White Sox 4--Angels 1

Stat of the week.

Well, it would have been if we had lost the last two games, anyway.

Stat of the week: Sweeney was 4 for 11 with 3 runs over the weekend. Huge props to him for stepping up and doing what the rest of the seasoned veterans have had trouble doing all season. This might be just the sort of little personal streak that could bring the rest of the lineup up with him and put this team on a patented 8 game winning streak.

What a great team victory. AJ pulled us off the deck again and the bullpen came through. It was great to return the favor from last weekend and even in the loss on Friday, I could feel the offense on its way back. Finally, is it possible for Colon to leave a game without being escorted by the trainer. Is it possible Scioscia brought the trainer out because he "forgot" to warm someone up in the bullpen and he feigned an injury to Colon so Shields could get as many pitches as necessary. Just a thought.

Perhaps I am missing all the love for Sweeny but the kid has 16 at bats and is batting .250. Sure he can field, just like BA, but has not proved he can hit, just like BA. Then once Pods comes back what do you do with him?

Ryan just looks better at the plate, IMO. It's not something you can see in stats. Sounds like BA is hitting the ball well in AAA, too. If both of these guys can hit, we've got a great young outfield going forward.

I remember an ESPN article a long time ago (probably by Rogers) about Sweeney destroying a Bartolo Colon fastball in spring training at the age of 19. It talked about how the kid just had a very live bat and wasn't intimidated by big league pitching.

The thing I like about Sweeney is his approach. He isn't fascinated by the long ball, and that's admirable. He's more of a contact guy. If you read the interview after yesterday's game, Sweeney talks about his mindset during that AB against Rodriguez. He was sitting on a curveball! Beautiful.

On to Minnesota, with no Mauer and WE ARE MISSING SANTANA!!!!!!!!!!:supernana:

I hope that Sweeney's clutch double will give him momentum entering the twins series against the 3 righthanders they will throw out there... ryan should be in the lineup all three games and if he could get on a roll...maybe finally he could prove all the hopeful talk about sox outfielders down in the system correct for once... I agree the kid just has a look of ''the natural'' right down to his sweet looking swing, speed, big arm,and relaxed air about him at the plate... not arrogance, just a confidence from knowing you are a superior athlete... now.. can he keep it going..

most pennant winners get unexpected contributions from some quarter, in 05 it was bad bobby,, maybe this year it will be ryan sweeney... go sox..way to go AJ...

No. People laugh at the people who made Jeremy Reed out to be the greatest CF Prospect since Mays. People laugh at the people who are so obsessed with walks that they failed to see that Jeremy Reed had absolutely no power. People laugh at the people who failed to factor into their evaluations of Reed that once he had to face minor league pitching, he couldn't just sit back and take walks, he'd have to hit the ball. People laugh at those who called KW an idiot, and the trade a disaster.

Nobody laughs at Jeremy Reed. I'd love to see Jeremy have a great career. For him, he tops out somewhere around John Cangelosi. (Their minor league numbers are very similar) The problem is that at this point in time, he's not close to where Cangelosi ended up his career. In order to get to Cangelosi status, Reed needs to learn to hit against guys with power and control. He's a long way off from there.
