Why in the world are the Sox off twice in 4 days? They scrunch so many games together June-September - they have a total of 13 days off for those four months combined and 3 of those are for the All Star break! How about breaking up one of the Sox' three stretches of 17, 18, and 20 game days in a row instead of giving them 2 off days in a week in May? It would be better for scheduling make up games too, where needed.

There are more off days this time of year because of rain.

I don't think the days off are helping the team offensively.

I am hoping the days off help them. You can't say that the layoff will stall their momentum...

It's good for A.J.

As Gammons said, its good to get AJ some rest; but otherwise, it makes losses even more brutal. We're sitting by, hoping they come out of their collective funk; so they probably are stewing just as much as we are.

I do think Paulie is about to turn the corner, as when he's "in the zone" he's got that slight head bob/nod on contact with the ball; and he had that with his hits on Wednesday. (I know, I'm no expert on batting, by any stretch; but I've been trying to watch each batter's habits to see what's off and what do they do when they're doing well. I noticed that with Paul; the same I noticed Iguchi's front foot "sweep" through the front of the batter's box, as well as Dye's "lean" as he gets full contact.)

Man, I so want to see a 5 game tear through the rotation with all starting pitchers earning "Ws."

Being off twice in four days isn't unheard of early in the season, especially with two game series. The A's had April 16th off, played a two game set against the Angels and then had the 19th off.

That doesn't make it right! Off days ... in May ... in Seattle and Anaheim ... stupid computers!

The way the Sox have been hitting, it's a blessing in disguise if you ask me...

Plus, the more off days, the fewer games Thome misses while on the 15 day DL.

I don't think computers make out the schedule anymore. Last I can recall a husband and wife team was doing it.

Monday's day off didn't do **** for them. Days off help when you're tired. These guys aren't tired. If they are, we're in far more trouble than we realize.

I thought I heard the exact opposite --- that they switched to a computerized schedule, hence the major increase in 2 game series. :dunno:

Definitely some wacky scheduling this year. Everyone else in the division has played 2-4 more games than us, except the Injuns, but they had 4 games with Seattle snowed out!

According to this article you're right, they went to a computerized schedule three years ago.

Three years ago, MLB switched to the Sports Scheduling Group, a Pittsburgh company founded by a former Pirates executive and a Carnegie Mellon business professor.

There's the problem; they need someone who actually knows how to use a computer.

I wonder if they are using a neural net.
