Our White Sox have not been performing well, of course. That, coupled with some other teams' success in our division so far, has not made this a splendid baseball season to date. However, at least for me, one thing about this baseball season is going quite well.

Even though they got creamed 12-2 yesterday at Thornton Fractional South, Joel Jonas' Marist RedHawks (http://www.athletics2000.com/marist/codebase/fbcontent.asp?nav=roster) have put together an enjoyable season so far. The RedHawks (18-4, 8-1 ESCC) are ranked No. 2 (Daily Southtown (http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/363937,302SPT8.article))/No. 3 (Sun-Times (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/preps/363844,CST-SPT-prate30.article))/No.4 (Tribune (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/highschool/baseball/cs-2007baseballrankings,0,2693200.htmlstory?coll=cs-hs-baseball-utility)). I saw their come-from-behind win (http://www.athletics2000.com/marist/codebase/fbevent.asp?id=2873&source=2) over Andrew the other day at 4200 West 115th Street. They were down 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh and were down to their final bullet when they rallied to beat the Thunderbolts' 7-6 on a walk off RBI double. The RedHawks showed a lot of heart in that victory, something the White Sox could use a little bit of these days.

Ahh Marist. I remember playing ther as an opponent back in the late 80's
and our RFielder having to avoid a tree in Right Field that was in play.

Always been a good school for baseball..
Came real close to going there..

Go Mt. Carmel!

My pick at this point of the season to win the state championship.

The Caravan play in the easiest sectional in the state and have the best pitching staff around. Their No. 4 just tossed a no-hitter, while their ace, Tom Zelasko, hasn't allowed an earned run in 37 2/3 innings this season.

Marist is a solid ballclub, but that sectional at Sandburg will be a bear. Big one for the RedHawks at Benet today. Will pretty much decide the ESCC title.

Go Sandburg!

Last I saw, Sandburg was ranked pretty high early in the season but I'm pretty sure they have fallen off a bit since then. Anyone know where they are at these days?

I know the girls softball is doing well though.

Sandburg's baseball team is slumping right now. They fell to 4-5 in the conference with a loss to Lockport yesterday, the same day as the sectional seed meeting. Will be interesting to see where Sandburg is seeded in its own sectional with Marist and Br. Rice among the top competition.

The softball team should win the state title.

We have all kinds of Catholic League guys here!

BR has really stepped up in a lot of sports, love seeing them excel ( and most Catholic League teams).

My alma mater had a tough week, going 2-2 and falling from their #2 spot. But when they turned that program over to the good coach (Bonebrake) a few years ago, he really turned the program into a power in the ESCC. Too bad they allowed the dolt of a predecessor to keep that job for a handful of years.

Is Lincoln-Way central doing any good in baseball this year? (my alma mater)

I know someone who played baseball at Marist in the mid 80's.

Marist moved into the driver's seat of the ESCC race with a 6-1 win at Benet today. The RedHawks got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Newsome
(10 strikeouts) and manufactured several runs. They successfully squeezed twice, including once with a 1-2 count.

Benet had a kid attempt a straight steal of home but he was just out.

:supernana:

That is a great win after yesterday's drubbing at the hands of T.F. South! The RedHawks seem to have solid pitching with Newsome, Mike Vuscko, Mario Nuņez, and Andrew Kirkel.

And if you are a lurking White Sox player, pay attention the the phrase I bolded in red.

They also got the one seed in the Richards sectional. Br. Rice is the 2.

Today, the RedHawks were in Arlington Heights to face the St. Viator Lions. They beat Viator 12-2 in the first game but were trailing the second game 12-7 when I left in the fifth inning. The RedHawks had been staging a rally comeback being down 12-3 earlier.
