View Full Version : new Yankee Stadium starting to rise over Bronx

Home plate at Citi Field in Flushing is marked by a patch of Astroturf. In the Bronx, an outcropping of New York schist was leveled by chisel hammers attached to earth movers to clear the land for the future home plate at the new Yankee Stadium.

I have to say, overall, I wasn't terribly impressed with Yankee Stadium when I was there. A Yankee fan I know said that it has no history anymore since the place was redone in the mid-1970s (or was it the 1980s?). It's not the same place that Ruth, DiMaggio and Mantle played in.

Since they're tearing down the old stadium, maybe there is a curse of the Bambino and that can explain why the Yankees are playing so poorly.

...looks a lot like New Comiskey did before the recent renovations? In particular, the way the seating bowl rises above the retro facade...

Thats what it would look like without the ramps that obscure the outer facade.

Next year is the last in the current stadium correct?
If they're holding the All-Star Game there next year, then yes.
