Konerko and Thome independently solicited advice from the Sox about getting personally involved in a worthy cause. O'Reilly researched several projects before coming up with a new partnership with Children's Home + Aid, a private child welfare agency that focuses on promoting a positive perception of foster care.

I'm not sure if there isn't a member of this team that wouldn't go out of their way to give their free time for charity. Nice job PK and Jim!

This is one of the reasons I never could hate Thome as much when he was on the Indians. He has always been into doing stuff for charity.

All players should do these types of acts more often. It's this type of stuff that defines sports "hero" to me, not how hard someone can hit a ball or how many innings they pitch. A hero gives of themselves to give back to the people who support them.
