3 years 3.25 million with a team option for 2010-11 for Thornton.

1 year 1.25 million with an option for 2009 for Ozuna.

WOW, what a deal for Thornton.

Bill Basavi is a complete idiot.

Those are excellent deals for the Sox. I think Thornton really wants to be here because he probably could have got another couple million on the open-market

Well...hopefully Buerhle or Dye are next.

Ozuna is a bit underpaid, I think.

Excellent deals....Ozuna is a steal

I love Pablo!

Fair contracts for both of them. We've got age to consider as well as talent. I love how we practically got Ozuna for nothing.

I like that we signed Ozuna for cheap from a business standpoint, but I think he deserved a little more. I like seeing good guys get rewarded!

If he wasn't here, he'd likely be moving from team to team.

This is great news; Thornton is the man. :bandance:

Except he wouldn't be hitting the open-market for another few years. Thornton hasn't even reached his first year or arbitration eligibility. The Sox are just buying out those years.

Nice.
Shouldn't this be in the Clubhouse, though?

Great to see the Sox make good relations with Thornton. If he keeps progressing, he's gonna be one heck of a pitcher. Ozuna also deserves the cash. There's not that many quality guys doing what he does for the Sox. He plays a lot of positions proficiently, and always seems to steal the spotlight a few games out of the season.

Oh, okay. I didn't look at all the numbers

Actually, the release says he would have been a free agent after 2010, so the Sox got options on his last arbitration year and his first free agent year. Tough not to like. He got less for the entire deal than Justin Spier got per year from the Angels.

I like it. Good deals for both.

Now on to Buehrle and Dye.

Thornton is an absolute steal for that price. Kenny is a mental ninja.:D:
As for the Pablo signing - eh. I like Pablo, but I really didn't think there was such a market for him that we would risk losing him after this season. He is a really nice firestarter off the bench, but I would personally rather see a right handed bat who could play better defense. Either way, we didn't spend much money on him, so there is nothing to complain about.

and people say Kenny isn't a good GM. Anyone can throw a crapload of money at players, but Kenny is one of the few managers who can sign players to fairly cheap contracts.

He's one of mine too along with Scotty. Congrats to him on signing the contract!

I love Ozuna!! He goes out there gives it everything he has. It may not be the most but at least he tries hard. He isn't an everyday player, gets thrown around to several positions, and we still get him cheap. Congrats Pablo....

Maybe, but typically set-up men don't get as much money, despite their importance to any winning team.

If Matt were on the open market, someone may pay him and give him an opportunity to start/close. I'm delighted that we're going to keep him around for a few more years. He's a solid lefty, with a chance to become a great relief pitcher.
