In Les Grobsteins season predictions (for link, see thread in the clubhouse) he mentioned that Joe Mauer may not start the season healthy. That's the first I've heard anything about Mauer being hurt. Does anybody have any info on this?

Just going off the top of my head, I think it's a stress fracture of his left foot. There's a thread around here somewhere, but I'm too lazy to look for it.

As a former minor league backstop, I can tell you that your feet and legs are very important to catching. Where it not for my second knee surgery, I might still be playing. Or not.

The article doesnt come up anymore but he has a problem with his leg. Some sort of precursor to a stress fracture

It wasn't a stress fracture; they called it a "stress reaction," supposedly a precursor to a stress fracture, in his lower fibula. They said that they only sat him down because it was spring training, and they don't expect it to be an ongoing problem. Probably the kind of soreness that, years ago, would have just been played through because they didn't have MRI's to find the cause.

Wow. How did I miss that? I check these boards every day! If he misses any time it will be a HUGE blow!

Same thing Beuhrle had in Spring 2005. Does this mean the Twins are going to win the World Series?

Yup..the Twins are now carrying 3 catchers so Mauer can DH if Mike Redmond needs to catch. The 3rd catcher is Chris Heintz.
