After hearing reports of Pablo's terrible defense again today, I'm really starting to get tired of him doing this.

I was thinking that Thome should probably get more days off this season so he doesn't wear down, especially early on against lefties. Maybe that would be a good time for Pablo? Then we don't have to put him in the field as much :D:

EDIT - I didn't notice I had 1,000 posts!!!!!!!!!!

I think the pitching is the biggest concern right now.

If he hits like he did when he was healthy last yera I can overlook some miscues.

If Ozuna can't play defense, why is he on this team?

You got that right! Another lousy day today for pitchers but I'm hoping it changes when the boys come north.

He may not be a defensive standout, but he plays defense well enough (about the level of a Mackowiak) at a few positions giving the Sox versatility. Pablo is also a good right handed hitter. He gives the Sox much needed speed and always seems to come through in the clutch and provides a spark every time he's in the game.

That's why.

Well, then, he can play defense.

Did Mackowiak play any infield this spring?

I think we are loaded with pitching talent - young and veteran. It may take 1/4 to 1/3 a season to figure out who should be out there, but we'll pitch great this year.
Or so I predict.

I actually really like the idea of letting Ozuna DH against select LHP to rest Thome in those situations. Perhaps 50% of the games against LHP Ozuna could DH, and could play LF in the other 50%.

I really wish we could have found room for Perez. Minus not being able to finish running the bases after he put the ball over the fence, I was impressed with him as a lefty specialist hitter this spring.

I love Pablo, he may suck sometimes at defense but he tries really hard and always hustles. You will never see that man loafing or taking anything for granted, he runs out every ground ball harder than anyone on our squad. I am glad we got a guy like Pablo on our team.

Is there even such a thing as a backup DH? :?:

I mean, seriously, DH isn't exactly that demanding of a position. The days Thome does need to rest you can put Pablo or whoever is available in the slot. Maybe DH Konerko and give him a little bit of rest while still giving him at bats. My point being that it's not a big concern to have an official backup DH, and if that's why somebody is on the team, I think that roster slot can be better used somewhere else. Next thing you know we're going to start declaring backup Ozzie Jrs and backup Ozneys.

wouldn't it be considered a rest for some position players, when they are moved to DH?

But then again it wouldn't be that bad if he plays DH once in a while to rest Thome, as long as we can replace that pop in the lineup.

As long as you put Pablo in left or some place where he can't do serious harm, I think we're okay. I don't think he's going to lose any ballgames for us in left like Mackowiak did in center.

Ozuna is fine in LF, especially when you consider that he plays in place of Podsednik.
