According to accuweather's 15-day forecast, it's going to be cold the entire week. Looks like we'll all have to bundle up:

http://wwwa.accuweather.com/forecast-15day.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&zipcode=60641&metric=0

Take it from an FSU meteorology major: Accuweather, on the whole, is complete crap.

And another thing, I'm sick of all the crap I hear from people who say meteorologists can't predict a thing... you have NO idea what you are asking for... perfection in a science that hasn't even been refined to anywhere NEAR perfection? HA! Predicting a forecast for more than 5 days in advance becomes very climatologically based. That's why, towards the end of a 7-day forecast, you will see very similar temps most of the time, unless there is some sort of major storm system that is expected to hold together. But with all the factors that go into keeping weather systems together (surface conditions AND conditions at multiple heights in the atmosphere.... 850 mb, 500 mb, 250 mb in particular), the evolution of jet streams, moisture feeds, and the like can be greatly altered by the fact that there are not enough readings taken to get the right idea of the atmospheric conditions. Because of this, incorrect values for vorticity, mean wind flow, etc. will throw off predictions vastly over merely a day, much less three, five, seven, or (what you guys are basically asking) nine. You get us more plentiful and accurate observations, we'll give you better forecasts.

Then again, you may just be talking about the broadcast meteorologists who have limited background in meteorology. With that... well, I got nothin'. :redneck Anyway, I had to rant. Back to the topic at hand.

--------------

Currently, the 6-10 day climate prediction forecast has the Chicago area in a 33-40% chance of having above normal temperatures.

http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/610day/610day.01.gif

Precipitation chances for the same period are normal at this point.

http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/610day/610day.02.gif

The 10-year climatological high for April 2nd is 53, with a low of 34. With a game time of 2 PM, you're looking at a temp. pretty close to the high.

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lot/climate/aprnorms-ord.php

So, if you are really looking for a forecast this early, I'll call for a temp. of about 55 at game time... just a hunch that it'll be a little warmer than normal. Rain... I don't anyone could tell you at this point, but I wouldn't expect a deluge.

And to any of you lucky people who actually get to take this game in at the Cell, drink a few for me!

This is the time of year where predicting the weather more than 10-20 minutes out is 100% risky.

I remember the morning of Opening Day 2005, the weather people said to bring a jacket to the game because it would be 40/50. Five hours later, it was in the '80's.

I suggest we email Brooks to make sure the weather is great.

I don't know about in chicago but it seems like in Detroit it's always backwards. Opening day can either be the first Monday or the second Monday in April, depending on whether they open on the road or home. Never fails, the Monday they do not open at home, nice and sunny. The Monday they do open at home.... cloudy, windy, chance of rain....

All I want is sunshine and no wind. I can deal with the cold.

I don't recall The opening of Comerica Park in 2000 would have been one if it were not the special event. They had to shovel snow off the field.

I'm with you, though. The normal high this time of year is about 50, so I'd take that, even. But to see it hit the low 70s this coming week and see it drop off so precipitously just in time for Opening Day really grinds my gears. But then some of the dome/warm weather teams will complain when they eventually have to be on the road at some point, when the cold-weather sites get a nice long homestand. I've heard the Yankees play most of their April games on the road and get to back-load their home games because Steinbrenner wants it that way.

Hell, if I'm the White Sox brass I'd want the same setup if I could do it. Who wants to play--or attend--a game in early April (not counting the opener) in 38 degrees, wind and all that when you can get that same game much later in the season instead? Not to mention the home-field advantage (modest as it may be) in a pennant race down the road.

People here are ripping on Accuweather, but I find them to be most reliable. The weather channel gameday specialty has always been wrong for me, itll change about 40 times come gameday. One night, before I left, it gave me 80% chance of rain and low temps, but it was beautiful the entire game

As I'm planning a pregame meal at Fogo de Chao before the game, I'm hoping it doesn't get too warm, as sitting in the hot sun with all that meat in me could leave me feeling awful. 65 degrees would be nice...70 at the top end.
