Very interesting article, I liked what Kenny was saying about Floyd and his comments on the possible Rowand deal.

a couple notable quotes:

"He has great angle on his fastball and drove it to both sides of the plate," Williams said. "He got ground balls, and on the hard infield they got through, but they won't get through in Chicago. He threw his breaking ball aggressively for strikes.
"It's a good breaking ball down here, one of the best in camp, and it will be even better once we leave here. He threw back-to-back changeups to a left-handed hitter over there. That's the one thing I've been waiting to see. They were outstanding.Link (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070309&content_id=1835859&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws)

I hope this kind of scouting pays off. If Floyd can win 10 games and chew up innings as the fifth starter - that would be great.

KW still gets a pass from me. People can doubt his trades or be pissed about them. I'll sit back and watch . KW knows something I don't. If not, he'll lose the free pass I gave him the last 2 years. :)

I'm hoping the best for Floyd, but I'm blaming Kenny if Floyd is a bust and we dont' make the playoffs.

Floyd 22-5 and a 3.10 ERA Sox win 110 games but miss wild card by one game in the ultra competitve AL and AL Cental but Williams is a *******!!!!

This is pretty much my sentiment, too. Williams has street cred like no Chicago baseball GM ever has in my entire lifetime -- or for that matter my father's lifetime and he just turned 82.

Williams has a free pass. He's innocent until proven guilty.

And as for the Trib's Rogers, McGrath, van Dyck, Gonzales, and the assorted dopes at the Sun-Times aspiring to become their paper's next windsock feature columnist, they're already convicted. I don't give a damned what they think or what they write.

They're full of ****.

Well said PHG.

A batter is considered great if his ba. is over .300 or obp is +.400. Kenny is going to swing and miss from time to time but I will take his overall results anytime. One trade will not make or break Williams.

Part of the fun of baseball for me is analyzing and critiquing our trades. But the bottom line is I agree with PHG. ("they're already convicted" - love it!)

One thing about Williams is that he's smarter and ahead of the media and many posters (like me)...BP for example STILL doesn't understand that the C Lee/Pods trade was about freeing up cash for AJ and TI and El D.

And the Garcia trade was in response to what williams sees as a frenzied market for 3rd/4th starter quality pitching (no one in the media seemed to think Gracia was anything special UNTIL we traded him for 2 high-level prospects). And Floyd has the demographic of the successful Cooper project....good stuff who needs a top fight coach to show him how to use it.

Right. Name another Chicago GM who has a WS ring in your lifetime. Or your parent's. Or your grandparent's. :redneck

For that reason alone I'll give KW--and Ozzie--the benefits of the doubt for quite awhile yet.

Darn straight.

The man speaks the truth.

Any fan of any team who thinks the Sox are "done" as far as this particular team of players needs to get their head examined. Any other division, we would of won. 'Nuff said, and now its time for the 2007 team to start the drive for October.

KW is going to put the best team he can on the field. Might not always work out, but I highly doubt he starts any season with "Well, if we get lucky, I saved us millions and we *might* win, but I doubt it."

I remember spring training of 05'being pissed about how KW went about building the team. I remember being one of those saying "No way in hell is this team capable of winning a WS ! What the hell is he doing".

After the World Series sweep, I realized "Kenny knows something I don't". That's why I drive a tanker and he don't.

So as you said George, "He's innocent until proven guilty". He brought something here that my grandparents waited an entire lifetime for and three of them never lived to see it.

KW has made very few deals that were complete failures - and by that I mean we gave up something that was tremendously valuable and we got back a complete liabilitiy. The closest to that was Ritchie for Fogg/Wells, and even that is debatable since Fogg/Wells never delivered too much.

He's made no FA signings that handcuffed us to bad contracts. We have had nearly 100% of our payroll put in players who were on the field/roster and being productive at some level. Very few guys have washed out, or even been injured for long under him. He's won a WS. He's had competitive teams every year. He has built a decent farm system considering where we have drafted the past 10 years. (There are at least 4 guys who project to be no worse than #3 SPs and another bunch who project to the back end of a rotation within a few years)

I'm sure KW can evaluate the value of 1 year of Freddy vs the value of having Floyd and Gio much better than Joe Internet can. I have lots of faith in KW. He's earned it.
