This is funny

Ayers is a hit vs. Matsuzaka (http://www.boston.com/partners/worldnow/nesn.html?catID=80767&clipid=1276166&autoStart=true&mute=false&continuous=true) (VIDEO)

He's faced 300-pound linemen coming at him with bad intent.
But Boston College junior right fielder Johnny Ayers never faced a gyroball. And he never expected to have his image plastered across millions of newspapers around the world.

Ayers is the punter on BC's football team. He's played in front of packed houses around the Atlantic Coast Conference and punted in two bowl victories. And last night he drilled the double heard across the Pacific.
BC's leadoff man made himself a trivia answer when he became the first batter to hit against international pitching sensation Daisuke Matsuzaka.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Larry Bird's first game in a Celtics uniform was against the Philadelphia 76ers in a preseason doubleheader at Madison Square Garden, the most famous indoor arena in the world.

Larry's first game in green certainly wasn't as big as Dice-K Friday at City of Palms Park. Come to think of it, I'm not sure the first moon landing was this big.

What's going to be funny, is if this guy turns out to be a total dud.

If that happens he will be back in the gorilla suit again

Well I don't think anyone can get mad at him, really. The entire city of Boston seemed like they wanted Matsuzaka. But I guess if anyone is going to be the scape goat then who better than him?

Stop the presses he shut down Boston College. Shall we induct him into the hall of fame yet?

Always a good thing when my school makes the headlines. :D:

They're seriously making a big deal out of Matsuzaka beating a college team though?

I'm starting to hope the guy turns into an abysmal failure just so ESPN and everyone else who have allready crowned him the next Cy Young can just shut up.

The Matsuzaka madness continues...

At the stadium gift shop, for instance, stacks and stacks of $23 Dice-K jerseys were ordered just for Tuesday's game. By the time Matsuzaka left the mound and headed for the showers about an hour into the game, approximately 200 had been sold, and there were optimistic projections at the cash register that all would eventually vanish.

I find it funny that he's shut down a college team and the equivalent of AAAA team and this is all you hear about... I can't wait to see him face teams the second go round... He might baffle them the first time around, but he strikes me as the kinda guy that is gonna get shelled the second go round...

I agree. Seems like the kind of guy similar to Takatsu or Nomo. Goofy pitches, werd delivery. Can blank people until they figure it out and see it enough times. After that they usually get beaten around like a rag doll.

$100mm doesn't quite buy you what it used to.

I predict, in two years the Vazquez deal will be looking much better than the Matsuzaka deal.
