Had to be escorted off the field, hit by ex teammate Kyle Lohse. Doesn't sound too bad though.

He is from the streets. I'm sure he has been shot in the head and survived.

I hope it knocked some sense into that prick.

Please elaborate. He's a good ball player. What do you expect him to do? Roll over and play dead everytime the Twinkies play the Sox?

Did Lohse do it intentionally?

I despise Hunter as much as most of you on here, but that's just absolutely uncalled for.

I was at the game. Definitely not intentional. Right after Torii went down, Kyle ran up to the plate. He was down about 5 minutes and then got up and walked off, though very gingerly. They announced later in the game that he is fine.

Black people live in houses, too. And some of them even have jobs. Amazing I know.

I don't think it was a rip on blacks as much as Toriiiiii always claiming he is from "the hood" or is a hood or whatever he has been claiming. I just recall it got debunked pretty soundly, IIRC. He grew up in some posh suburb or something and found his inner gangsta when he realized it would sell well...

Okay fair enough, I don't remember him making those comments, but I do believe you. I guess I just took it out of context.

Perhaps someone should knock some sense into you. Is it really necessary to make a comment like that?

I don't understand how voodoo can not care about Hunter's well being and everyone is ok with that. Yet I don't care and everyone jumps on me.

I wasn't being racist or anything about the "streets" comment. It was referring to a comment along time ago when Hunter said he could handle certain things since he was "from the streets," when he is actually from a suburb.

And I think Torii Hunter is a prick. Big deal...I'm not the only one that thinks that.

Torii Hunter is probably my least favorite player in baseball. But I wish injury upon no one. Further, sitting about 100 feet from a guy hit flush in the head by a fastball was awful to see. To make light of it is immature and inappropriate, no matter who does so, IMO.

The Twins are full of jackasses. The only guys I respect on that team are Ron Gardenhire and Johan Santana. I either don't know any of the other guys or just dislike them. I would throw Joe Mauer in with those two but I haven't read any of his quotes yet so he just might be a babyfaced jackass. They've been a waste of a playoff spot the last x number of times they've made it dating back to when they won the World Series. We've won 1 division title in the last 6 years and a World Series. They've won 3 division titles in the same period of time and how many AL Pennants do they have? Morneau and Hunter can suck on that.

Although in 2008, I will be urinating on myself when Santana/Liriano/Bonser/???/??? makeup the Twins rotation.

I like Hunter. I think it's similar to the whole AJ thing with it mattering if he's on your team. I used to hate AJ a whole lot more than Hunter. The collision made him look like a you know what, but I wish our players would do more of that rather than offering to clean up the plate before being tagged out.

I personally don't dislike Torii or any of the Twinkies because of what they do on the field. I dislike them because of what they say in the press.

There is a slight difference in our comments. I didn't say it was good or that I hoped any change on Toriiiiii at all, good or bad. I didn't make reference to shooting him in the head even if that isn't what you intended, it can be inferred.

Mine was obviously a light hearted comment, yours wasn't. It's the reason you are getting taken to task and I am not. Of course it might be because...

I've heard Hunter is from Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Probably not a "hood" place. Why would he want to market a "hood" image in Minnesota of all places?

That's not true. Pine Bluff, Arkansas isn't big enough to leap to mind when most people think of terrible places to live, but it's apparently a regular near the top of the list for murder rates among small cities. It got pretty prominent mention in some HBO documentary a few years ago on the subject of gangs migrating out of the US's larger urban areas.

The peak of it's awfulness was in the early to mid-nineties (Hunter was a draft pick out of HS in 1993) so it might be better now, but I'm pretty sure it's never been posh.

edit: here's a story from 2001 on the town:

I have to agree with oeo on this one.

I don't see where soltrain was wishing injury on anyone. Torii is fine, and the thread starter stated that, so I don't see the harm in cracking a simple joke.

If anyone should be taken to task for their comment, it should FedEx for bringing race into this, for no apparent reason. But that's just my honest opinion.

The SOX should trade for Solomon Torres just because of that pitch.

But seriously, I'm sure that pitch from Kyle Loshe wasn't on purpose because let's face it, he sucks.
