Just did a little bit of web surfing and came across a new White Sox book; this one is called WHITE SOX ESSENTIAL by Lew Freedman and is set for a March 30 release date.

Everything I need to know to be a real fan?

Is there a Cliff's Notes version of it?

Lew is actually a cool guy. He is the outdoors writer for the Trib and covers the boat shows here in Chicago. That is how I know him.

For the past decade or so, most new White Sox books were always about the Black Sox. It's good to see this emerging trend of new books that do not focus exclusively on that chapter in Sox history. I always look forward to new Sox books!

I'll have to check this book out then. Nice to see a lot of Sox books flooding the book stores. We'll see the placement they get.

The book is now out!!! Did a quick once-over through most of the chapters and this looks to be a good read. Pretty good photo selection (including many that haven't appeared in any other White Sox book... check out the photo of Luis Aparicio with the kids in the crowd... look really close at the logos and you'll see the negative was flipped), and lots of "Top 10", "Did You Know" and "If Only..." lists are sprinkled throughout. There are also several chapters devoted to selected White Sox stars, and one that was really good to see was a chapter on Wilbur Wood (unfortunately you don't see or hear about him that much these days).

A couple of nit-picky things I've noticed include in the chapter on old Comiskey Park, Lew Freedman mentions that the last game was played there on September 30, 1990 and the wrecking ball came along the next day (demolition didn't actually begin until the first week of April, 1991). The chapter on the 2005 post-season was also really good, although it would have been better if he had included a sentence or two about El Duque's sixth-inning escape act when talking about the three-game sweep of the Red Sox; otherwise from what I've seen just glancing through it this is well worth adding to your Sox library.

I thought I saw this on the the shelf a few weeks ago, but it could of been another.

I have to echo the sentiments of my fellow Sox fans who finally are getting books and such on the history of such a great team. Yes, it was a long time coming for a championship, but in the meantime, we had a lot of fun with the Sox, and some not so fun moments. It's great to see writers focusing on the whole of the cloth, instead of just either the Black Sox scandal or the 2005 team.

Thanks for the link to the article; with all the stories, interviews, etc. of former Sox players Wilbur is one we really don't hear much from these days... very nicely done! :bandance:

I know there was a thread about it here a few days ago. I forgot the title, but I do not see the previous thread here. Can anyone give me the title. Thanks!
