FORT MYERS - When you really stop and think about it, Curt Schilling (http://news.bostonherald.com/search/?searchSite=true&keyword=Curt+Schilling&mode=all&sorting=pubdate)never had a chance. Not when he is 40 years old and just one in a strong class of potential free agent pitchers. Not when the Red Sox (http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox.bg) have money to burn and Schilling looks like he just ate Dustin Pedroia.

Boston may have been smart for once with them not re-signing Schilling.

Keith Olbermann named him last night's "worse" person in the nightly worst person in the world rundown: The bronze goes to the endless pageant that is outfielder Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox. The team gave him his annual permission to show up for Spring Training several days past the official reporting deadline. It said Ramirez had to attend to family reasons. However, according to promoters of a vintage car auction in Atlantic City this Saturday, what he has to attend to is a vintage car auction in Atlantic City this Saturday. Well, if he's bringing his family...

Gee, what a smart guy to come in 20 pounds overweight in his free agent year. Yes, I know there have been great ball players who have been overweight for their entire careers. But for someone to demand a contract after they look like they ate every Philly Cheese Steak and NY Pizza in the east coast, is just absurd. He's obviously showing that he doesn't care at all. Oh well, not like its my team's issue or anything.

:rolling:

I shouldn't throw stones  but what in the world kind of off-season did he have? For that kind of dough you can't stay in reasonable shape?

And that is supposed to be a part of that "great" Red Sox rotation?

Ozzie would be ripping Schilling a new one, even if he is only a few years older.
