Guess this is for Brooks. I am wondering if the Sox might sport the 1983 jerseys this season. I saw the 1983 on field dug out jackets at sox fest by majestic and some are on ebay now. Also an on the field 1983 fleece has been released by Majestic. Wondering if the 2007 sox might wear these a few times????

JeffI would expect it would be more likely to see '83 stuff next year for the 25th anniversary. It would be dumb to do it this year with the 25th so close at hand.

They wore those in 2003. I would hope that would be it for those.

They wore the shorts in '76...I don't think we'll see the '72 or '67 unis but the '77 unis might be broken out on seventies night against Tampa Bay.

I thought I read on a post earlier that Brooks said that they won't be wearing them none of the players really like them and don't even mention the shorts...

I would love to see that.... And it would give me the opportunity to purchase one since I've coveted them for a long time now.

And yes, they wore the 83s in 2003 so I don't think we'll be seeing them again anytime soon.

Throwback unis are always a good option, IMO. It brings baseball back to its rich tradition.

Plus, the Sox have some awesome looking throwbacks :D:

Yea, they really do. I think I'm one of the few people who actually LIKES the '77 uniform. But maybe it's just because of that team. Even though Oscar Gamble came back and played in the '85 season, I always have the mental picture of him in that uniform and it's hard to get rid of.

After thinking about it, they probably won't do '17 for another ten years, to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the WS champion team, so I think '77 would be a good choice this year. And then there's always the chance of participating in some other team's throwback day. I remember a game in '04 or '05 at Jacobs field where both the Sox and Indians wore mid-50s unis. Garland started and the Sox won.

I agree with Lip. I'd like to see the late 60s and early 70s ones for a throwback day. The red-and-white unis from the 70s are the first ones I remember the Sox wearing.

I've seen the red throwback cap at Grandstand and online and will probably end up buying one before too long.

Those were some awesome unis. The problem is, you have to wear high socks or stirrups with that kind of uniform. Especially with that uniform. The pajama style just ruins the uni.

My first game, they were in the red pinstripes....I remember riding the Western Ave bus north, transferring at 35th and going over with my older brothers.

When I saw the red hat(I think it was at Lids, actually), I immediately thought of the sun, the smell of the food, and the sightline 7 rows off the UD wall in mid left center....and bought the hat.

I think mixing up the throwbacks is a great idea.

IMO, I think the Sox and Cubs blew a golden opportunity last year to commemorate the 1906 Cross-Town World Series. It would have been great to see both teams wear replica uniforms (both home and away versions) during the inter-league games. I really would have loved to see the SOX road 1906 uniforms. A little marketing would have gone a long way...

Have the SOX announced any special Sunday uniforms like they have in the past or are there going to be day-specific turn back the clock uniforms?

Well, they tried. The Sox wore the 1906 uniforms for the finale of the series at USCF, but the Cubs wore their regular blue tops. The Tribune gently chided the Cubs the next day for missing the boat on the 1906 commemoration.

This year, let's dress as the '69 Mets. :redneck

My top choices for throwback uni's are the 1920's caps with crossed socks on the hat, and the 1930's caps where there's a bat intersecting S-O-X with a baseball in the center of the O. I guess those teams aren't remembered so fondly, but the uni's sure were cool.

...the 1930's caps where there's a bat intersecting S-O-X with a baseball in the center of the O. I have that cap (and really like it,) but according to the HOF uniform site, they never actually wore that logo on a cap. They wore it on the home jersey from 1932-1935, but the home cap was blank, while the road cap had a C on it.

I finally picked up one of the "crossed socks" hat at Sox Fest. Glad I waited, because the new ones (made in Bangladesh) are way better than what was available a couple of years ago.

It seems to me that for several years each decade, the Sox have a team from their past they can celebrate. Once per decade for each team from the past is not too much, as each decade brings a new generation of fans.

Any year ending in 3 - 1983
Any year ending in 4 - 1964
Any year ending in 5 - 2005
Any year ending in 6 - 1906
Any year ending in 7 - 1917, 1967, 1977, 2007
Any year ending in 9 - 1959
Any year ending in 0 - 1990

Well, the Sox have some work to do in 2008, 2011 and 2012 to give us something to commemorate in subsequent years ending in 8, 1 and 2.

AH veeter, you're not thinking big picture. Imagine the joy for the female Sox fans when Pods or Paulie or Crede (bird legs) come up to bat.

Then again, the closing battery of AJ and Jenks might scare people out of the park in droves.

Usually a team will crank out its throwback uni for teams that won something OR had a memorable personality. While the '77 Hitmen won nothing, they were beloved and they had a lot of charecters on that team. I think that the '77 Hitmen are much more known and more beloved than the '72 White Sox.

Another thing that noone pointed out, this year is also the 90th anniversary of the White Sox second world series in 1917, they might break out those unis. Man...a lot of unis they can wear this year. 1917, 1967, 1972 and 1977...

I may sound like a dummy here or I just missed it on this thread but have they decided what game turn back the clock night will be and what uniform? I don't care so much about which uniform, however if I had a say I think the 77 ones in honor of the Hitmen, but I never miss that game. It has a lot of meaning to my family.

I remember hating the late 70's uniforms. I can do without them. I loved the red pinstripes - to me, they looked classy. And on the day the Sox would wear them, it could be a promotional day, where about 20,000 red hats (from the '71-'75 era) would be given out. Last year, I got a cool red cap with the 1939 Sox logo on it (the Monday night game against the Orioles) - those are cool as well.
