SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A Marine who lost a finger on his left hand while serving in Iraq has agreed to terms with the San Diego Padres (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/padres), the team said Monday.

It'll be interesting to see how he pans out. He doesn't have it quite as hard as Jim Abbott. Maybe he can get a donation from Alfonseca. :D:

Something tells me that it wouldn't be a very good match.

It should be noted he's a RHP and he lost a finger on his left hand. Still good to see a serviceman living out a dream.

Yeah, and even if it were on his right hand, lack of pinky probably isn't a huge adjustment to make. Of course, it's his glove hand so it shouldn't matter at all really. Sorry about the ambiguous thread title though. :) Nine fingers on one hand would be something straight out of sci-fi.

mlb.com interviewed the guy a couple days ago.

http://dds.mlb.com/2007/daily/021307_mlbr.mp3

The interview is the first one and lasts about 6 minutes. Nothing too wild but I figured I'd pass it along.

Phil Rogers talks about the Cubs for the last 15 minutes of that particular podcast, if that floats your boat.
