He belted a HR against us in the opener last year!! Don't see him making the team though, unless he takes over for Ross as the back up 1st basemen

Other Noteable accomplishments for Perez in 2006
-Hawkaroo was angry at him for standing too close to the batters box while he was supposed to be in the on-deck circle.
-At the Cell, he tripped and fell on the way to first base while with Seattle. The whole park laughed, but he just stood right back up and smiled.

Hes still got some pop in his bat, well see if he makes the team, i think he might.

He has 1% chance of making the opening day roster. He would need Konerko or Thome to go down, maybe even both to get hurt.

They were excited for about 15 seconds here in Seattle when Eduardo joined the Mariner's..:o:

I really wish there were a spot for him on this team. I think there is still a possibility. He can hit left handed pitching well including a couple big HR's last year off of Santana, Buehrle, etc. He also gives us a realistic back-up option at first base besides Erstad.

Erstad actually has played more games at 1st base than any other position over his career.

i don't think its a bad signing, as an insurance policy. Perez would be a decent bat off the bench, plus with Thome supposedly getting more rest this year, he or Konerko can DH or vice versa. That is if he makes the opening day roster, which could happen if Podsednik is not 100% or if somebody else really struggles. Its a minor league deal, but I can't really see Perez accepting a spot in triple A.

Is this AAA roster filler? If so, are they preparing to move Rogo??

Is there an exhaustive list of former Indians who subsequently played for the White Sox, preferably sorted by position and/or uniform number?

Per Rotoworld:

White Sox signed first baseman Eduardo Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Perez slumped after a trade to Seattle last year, but he still hit .275/.331/.503 in 153 at-bats against lefties, indicating he's still worthy of a platoon role. Unfortunately, the White Sox won't have one to offer him, not unless they like the idea of giving him considerable time in the outfield for the first time since 2003. He could get the bench spot vacated by Ross Gload and give Jim Thome the occasional day off against a tough southpaw.

I really do not want to see Perez in the outfield, so I hope that is not an idea anyone is seriously entertaining.

This signing is insurance on insurance.

This signing is insurance on insurance.

Nothing wrong with that. Especially with the LHP in this division.

Solid signing. He would be a nice addition to the bench to give us someone with some pop and a right-handed bat to spell Thome when needed. Unfortunately, there really isn't room for him. Hall, Ozuna, Erstad and Cintron all have spots locked up. The only possibility would be to move Mackowiak.

If Perez has a good ST, it wouldn't surprise me if they carry Perez until Pods gets off the DL and then make the decision.

It's crazy to me that Perez doesn't excite anyone, but Darin Erstad does...

yes we traded ross to KC for future HOF Andy Sisco.

I can't see any scenario where Rogo makes the roster.

Perez is a good insurance policy. And we need guys who can hit left-handed pitching. That's the one thing Perez can still do at this stage of his career.

Low risk, high reward on this move.

I like it a lot. I almost wonder if we are loading up on guys who can hit lefties because of how much we get own'd by Johan. Toby Hall, Perez, might just be able to rip a few off him.

Between all the "G-words" used to describe Erstad (gritty, grinder), I'm assuming it's his intangibles people like. At least I hope so, because his tangibles all suck a great deal of ass.

I figure Perez got signed so that Erstad can play the outfield in the event Pods takes too long to come back, or plays badly when he does. If Pods is out, Perez becomes this year's Ross Gload. If not, he's in the minors.

That's because Erstad fills a need of having a back-up CF

yes we traded ross to KC for future HOF Andy Sisco.

Him, Buehrle, Gonzalez, Garland will all win 300 games with the Sox.

Obviously, Kenny noticed AJ struggled against some lefties, and Thome was worthless in the second half against lefties. Hard to see where he would have a spot, though.

The sad thing is that a sports anchor in this city (Jim Rose) said the Sox signed Perez as insurance for................................Uribe. I must have missed Juan moving to first or Perez becoming a shortstop.

it opens up a spot on the bench if Uribe can't play and Cintron becomes the starter as SS. Then Perez becomes more valuable.

True, but Rose made it sound like he was signed to play short. :?:

Fans of the Charlotte Knights are going to be excited to see Junior Spivey and Eduardo Perez in the same infield.

There is an interview with Eduardo on whitesox.com.

He won't play for Charlotte. He'll either make the team, or he'll be let go. I don't see him going to the minors. Truthfully, I can see him going into broadcasting once he's done.
