Does any other MLB team send out a press release saying when the TRUCK is leaving for Spring Training???

Truck day (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2007/02/truck_day.html)

The Red Sox confirmed today that the team's equipment truck will leave Fenway Monday at approximately 1:00 p.m. to begin the 1,480-mile journey to the team's spring training facility in Fort Myers, Fla.

According to the Red Sox press release today, the truck will depart from Fenway Park at the players’ parking lot entrance on Van Ness St. The truck will be followed in procession by Fenway ambassadors, Red Sox staff, and Wally the Green Monster tossing gifts to fans from a flat-bed truck.

I hope the truck has a flat tire and has to stop. Of course, that would mean ESPN will be sending a team to find it and inform the rest of the country once the tire has been replaced with a spare.

I respect the Red Sox tradition and history, but I cannot understand the obsessive nature of the media when it comes to that franchise, or the New York Yankees. There are several other teams (White Sox, Cardinals, Tigers, Phillies, etc.) who have just as much history as they do, but the media is determined to prevent fans from finding this out.

Whoever is in charge of press releases for the Red Sox is the most underpaid person in baseball.

But I have a feeling that there are a good handful of Red Sox fans that got really excited about this and will camp out in front of Fenway to see the truck off while spraying it with holy water

WEEI is saying that fans will be able to track the truck via GPS on the team website starting Monday.....

of course given the state of the 2 winter teams here people are thrilled to talk about the truck.......

I actually don't have any problem with a ballclub putting out such a release. My problem would be with any news-gathering organization that actually felt the need to do anything with that release, other than crumple it up and toss it into the trash.

Having said that, I don't doubt that at least one local television station in the Boston market felt the need to have their cameras on hand to record "the precious sight" of the truck being loaded and driven away from Fenway Park.

That is what makes me shudder.

I can guarantee that all 4 network local news stations in Boston plus NESN and New England Cable News will have LIVE coverage of the truck leaving Fenway. They have always made a big deal of out of it.

I saw an article on MLB.com or yahoo or something about the Brewers' equipment crew unloading stuff from Miller Park in the subzero cold. That wasn't the main point of the article though, the focus was that the truck was leaving for Arizona.

The truck got a fine sendoff with the Boston College Marching Band doing the honors.

Ha! I have no problem with this. Actually, I think its sort of funny/charming. Plus, like you said, its not like Bostonians have much to get excited about besides the Oden/Durant sweepstakes going on at the Garden.
