AL MVP Justin Morneau (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7063) agreed Friday to a $4.5 million, one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=min), who also settled their salary arbitration cases with third baseman Nick Punto and outfielder Lew Ford (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7061).

He's only in his first year of arbitration. There's only a limit to how much he'll be paid.

This is actually kind of a ****ty deal for the Twins IMO. They need to sign Morneau to a long term deal, and this doesn't look like it.

Three years of going to arbitration with Morneau isn't quite what I imagine the Twins want to do. The only thing good about this deal, is that it gives the Twins an out if the guy gets hurt.

He will be gone once free agency rolls around. Pohlad will start freaking out when Mauer, Santana and Morneau are all asking for contracts over 80MM each.

I gotta believe out of those three they can only keep one. Unless they let Santana go and keep Mauer and Morneau, but if I were them that'd be my LAST resort.
