The White Sox must be pretty serious if they have $750K buyout or $3.5 million contract option (team) for next year.
Obviously, KW is hedging his bets on BA and Pods and wants some added insurance for Sweeney/Fields/Owens having to play too much.
Randy, that investment for next year would be very comparable to what the Cubs are paying Jones, but Erstad will have to prove he is worth it...whereas Jones would come here and waste $4 million THIS year that we might need to take on another salary at the deadline (like a Pierre or Roberts) if Pods is unable to resume his career and we don't have any clear "winner" for the leadoff position, using a 'committtee' approach.
