A 48 is a large, maybe a small XL It depends on where the weight is. I'm a 48, but big shouldered, so a 48 jersey doesn't work for me, but a 50/52 does. I have a friend who is a 48 but his weight is in his gut more - and he's fine with it. If you really want to be precise, get the chest measurements.
