How Robert Fick managed to get a major league contract is beyond me... my list would include:

Timo Perez
Sandy Alomar
Jose Vizcaino
Jason Grilli
Josh Paul
Jose Hernandez
Ronnie Cedeno

Know of any players who didn't play in Chicago? :D:

Russell Branyan somehow keeps a major league job.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Soriano and Lee are just two of the worst players to ever play the game.

Russell Branyan

with some time I could probably dig out a couple more.

Also a little fun. Google up "Worst MLB Players" like the 4th response is for some reason Christian Guzman's ESPN Player Card.

In terms of being bad, Guzman

Branyan has a little power at least. He actually had 18 HR's in about 200 AB's in 2006.

But Lima, Chen, and esp. Guzman are right on target.

$9 million gets you 0 wins, an ERA of almost 8.00, and a .000 BA with those three.

I think any of us on this message board could have done that happily for only half of that amount, and maybe got a few hits or at least one lousy win!!!

But this is based off of 2006 performance (or lack of performance).

I for one always thought Jason Johnson had to be one of those guys who made you wonder 'If he can make it, I could/could have too'.

agreed. He's even got a contract for 2007. If he makes the team over Omar Infante that will be a serious chink in the Dombrowski armor. My hope is that Leyland loves the guy and won a bet with Dave so he gets to keep him for some reason.

Ronny Cedeno. Can't hit, walk, make contact, make great defensive plays, or even routine plays.

Cristian Guzman, Dewon Brazelton, Ryan Vogelsong (they traded Jason Schmidt for him!) and Brad Eldred are pretty bad too.

Royce "The Choice" Clayton is the worst veteran everyday position player in my mind. Every year some poor GM gets swindled by Clayton's agent into forking over 1,000,000 or more for his "stellar defense" and in return they get a sack of garbage who dogs it in the field, is a cancer in the clubhouse, has a noodle for an arm, and hits about .100 in the first half of the season. Royce is definitely "The Choice" for worst position player in baseball.

How about not?

Plays solid D, walks at a high rate, and has mashed lefties since 2003. I would've taken him as a platoon partner for Pods or Mack.

Any player, probably Anderson Hernandez, or Tomas Perez. Hernandez is still young, and plays good D, so I guess he gets a pass, but he's absolutely horrible. Edgardo Elfanzo has hit about the slipperiest slope of any player, and to think some people wanted him to be our starting 3b a couple years ago.

Pitcher?.... Mays, Brazleton, Reitsma, Russ Ortiz, Runelvys Hernandez, Chen, and Jason Johnson are all at the same level of ineffectiveness.

Unless there's an inside joke involved that I'm unaware of, I don't understand people knocking the above opinion. Murton's career OPS/SLG/OPS+ are .370/.462/111, while Podsednik's are .342/.378/88.

And Murton's career consists of how many pro seasons? The reason most knock it is because it seems like a zero-gain. He hasn't proven much yet, and to throw a guy who might backtrack and have an awful season is a really bad idea.

I do agee if he keeps up those numbers then he'd be a great LF addition, but as it stands now he's only had 1 pro season. Let's hold off, the Royals canceled their SS plans once Berrora made a splash, look where he is now.

You're suggesting a Gold Glove winner at a position to the far right of the defensive spectrum as a candidate for the worst player in the game?

Pods hasn't really proven much either. He's like Juan Pierre except he gets a few more walks. He had an amazing rookie year in Milwaukee, completely dropped off in 04, had a decent but still off year in 05, and struggled again (at least in the leadoff department) in 06.

Murton's downside is numbers that might be a significant drop-off from last year.

Pods' downside is numbers that would be exactly the same as last year.

I never said Pods was a better LF. But in terms of the upgrade department, Murton doesn't upgrade our LF at all.

His defense is probably just as bad, he makes the minimum, oh, and he's been a better hitter too. Good contact, good eye, better OBP.

How is that not an upgrade for LF?
