View Full Version : More dealing? Done dealing?

A lot of the threads I'm reading are assuming the Sox are done dealing. Is that the case in most people's opinions? Has Kenny said something to that effect?

I was thinking we picked up so many prospects to make a bigger move maybe. Is that possible, or is the 2007 roster for the most part? You'll have to forgive me, I'm out of the country for another month, and feel lost as to what is going on back home.

From here it seems like Kenny is preparing to pay mark Jon and Jermaine after this season. I'm hoping he can do that and possibly pick up another big name for this season.

Thoughts?

It's impossible to say what Kenny is going to do next...

Considering we still do not have a 4th OF who can play CF and do not tell me Terrero is a viable option I would have to say no, The CWS last year lacked a 4th OF who could bat RH and play a 1/2 way decent CF.

Let's wait for ST.Something might (or might not)
occur once players start getting dropped from teams.

We didn't have one who could bat LH and play 1/2 way decent either. :redneck

Im with the group. I think Kenny has to fill a few more holes (bullpen 4th OF possibly CF or SS). I don't mind going into the season with question marks (will guys like Sisco and Aardsma improve or continue to be mediocre, Anderson, Uribe) but not that many.

I also hope Kenny has a feel good move in him (Baldelli).

There are going to be questions going into every season. Just look at 2005. How did you feel about the 4th OF situation going into that season? Carl Everett? Timo Perez? How about Contreras coming off a 5.50 ERA 2004 performance? Or Cotts' 5.65 ERA in 2004?

2007 has far less questions than 2005 and that seemed to work out okay. 2006 had even less questions but I feel that 2007 has fewer questions than 2005.

If the starting rotation performs near 2005 levels then the pen will be surprisingly good.

KW always has something up his sleeve, so I wouldn't be surprised if something else happens.

If the starting five pitch like 2005, the bullpen is a practical non-factor.

One of my favorite games from 2005 was the September 7 game against the Royals. Contreras went 7.2 strong. He gave up 6 hits and 5 walks but allowed no runs and struck out 4. Jenks finished off the 8th and started the 9th without incident. Cue Marte. Man, there were times when he trotted in and visions of 2004 Mike Jackson danced in my head. It was a classic Marte performance. He didn't get any outs and managed to put two men on. Both of them were hit by pitches. Ozzie yanked him after the second guy was hit. The pitch count? Four. He threw four freakin' pitches and hit two guys with one out in the top of the 9th in a 1-0 game. When Ozzie came out to get him, I though he was going to pull a Derringer on him. Hermanson ended up sealing the deal but good grief...

I hope I don't see Baldelli in a Sox jersey. He's a good player......when he's healthy. The cost it would be to get him is not worth the risk. Sure you could say Dye was injury prone but we didn't give anyone up for him.

I hope they're not done dealing, but I'm emotionally prepping myself for that possibility.
I am also prepping myself for the circus this board will become if and when a deal is made that can't be categorized as a hugangous blockbuster at first glance and once again relies on the actual performance of the players involved to be fairly judged.

I too am especially hoping for a move to strengthen the outfield a bit. I still consider Pods to be a general questin mark and could use a bit of reassurance that Ozzie doesn't have some sick BA vendetta going on still.

No kidding. KW is about as predictable as the lottery. I was going to make a similar post, but you beat me to it. Kenny Williams is both very aggressive and very unpredictable. All he's done so far this off season is make me worry and wonder. I hope he has something else in the works that will brighten my outlook.

We haven't reached the trade deadline for 2007, so no; I do not think KW is done working deals.

Agreed. KW seems to make his boldest moves unexpected. I see the same applying here.

I believe that we will see the acquisition of an outfielder before the end of Spring Training.
