"When the White Sox backed out of the Jon Garland deal because of concerns over Taylor Buchholz's health, they came back to Tim Purpura with a counter-offer. They'd still do the deal in its original form--Buchholz, Jason Hirsh and Willy Taveras for Garland--if Purpura would also throw Hunter Pence into the deal. He passed."

I think that is what Purpura heard...what KW really said was, "Hey, can you thrown a 'hundred pence' (get it, Hunter Pence...hundred pence)?"

Wow, that would have been a ransom. I wonder if he asked about Luke Scott too?

KW could have traded Garland for the entire Astros organization and people would still be griping.

This is purely speculation, and I'd bet that it's completely fabricated:

A. Justice is a proven liar - he makes up stories and rumors to make Astro brass look dumb

B. No way in 10 million years is Purpura trading Pence and Hirsh in the same deal. Maybe if the team were moving to Anchorage..
