Basically you brought a catchy "Riske Business" connection with you but in the end "Risky Business" was indeed the outcome of your outings. Will anyone really miss this guy?

He would have been fine as our fifth reliever. He has always been lights-out, or a gas can. He wasn't that bad with the Sox last year and I really don't understand the hate. :?:

Compare his numbers to Chris Reitsma, who for some reason reason people wanted us to sign.

Chris became a full time reliever in 2003:
2003: 4.29 ERA (League AVG: 4.29,) 1.321 WHIP, 5.68 K/9
2004: 4.07 ERA (League AVG: 4.31,) 1.368 WHIP, 6.78 K/9
2005: 3.93 ERA (League AVG: 4.40,) 1.268 WHIP, 5.15 K/9
2006: 8.68 ERA (League AVG: 4.40,) 1.929 WHIP, 4.18 K/9
......and he's coming off of ulnar transplant surgery. Let's compare those numbers to David Riske, who made $1 million LESS than Reitsma last year

Riske over the same time period:
2003: 2.29 ERA (League AVG: 4.26,) 0.964 WHIP, 9.88 K/9
2004: 3.72 ERA (League AVG: 4.54,) 1.422 WHIP, 9.08 K/9
2005: 3.10 ERA (League AVG: 4.10,) 0.963 WHIP, 5.94 K/9
2006: 3.89 ERA (League AVG: 4.65,) 1.295 WHIP, 5.73 K/9

I would rather have Rebecca DeMornay circa 1985, lol.

I'm gonna miss him. Now my black Riske-54 jersey will have no meaning!

Lets not forget about Riske, he got kicked out of one his first games as a White Sox by beaning a player after one of the Sox got beaned.

Riske's finest Sox-related moment came in 2005 when he gave up Crede's game-winning bomb at the Cell. Listening to the audio clip of Hawk screaming Crede's name still gives me goosebumps.

You hit the nail on the head, about Riske's value to the Sox.

I also appreciate Riske for September 20, 2005. Crede hitting his 2nd homer of the night against Cleveland and extending the lead to 3.5 games. It was the greatest game in which I was in attendance.

The Vazquez-Cotts-Riske combo was fantastic. :redneck Thanks for letting the runners score that Cotts walked.

Thanks for the Crede homer though. Best thing you did.

Javier Lopez, who we traded to get him, made us look sick at Fenway one day last summer.

HA! A non-appreciation thread. I wouldn't have thought I would have never seen a thread like this for Riske in June....

Wow, that is some mighty impressive recall. I can barely remember the world series starting pitchers for Houston** anymore, but people can remember minutiae like this. Nice. And yeah, that's prolly Riske's finest contribution to Sox lore. Thanks, I guess?

**Clemens, Pettitte, Oswalt and Backe, right? It took a solid 30 seconds to piece that together from memory. I suck.

That seems to sum up the sentiments from this entire thread. Oh well. :dunno:

The biggest reason I remember that is I was at that game (Crede Bomb off Riske). It is the most amp'd I have ever been at a game, until Crede hit the double after the AJ Drop 3rd call in the ALCS.

While I agree that Riske isn't as completely horrible as some on this board think, I will say that his E.R.A. could be misleading since he did let a pretty big share of inherited runners score. (Usually after a Vazquez 6th inning meltdown) Is he awful? No, but he isn't very good either and should be replaced relatively easily. The Riske-McCarthy-Cotts tag team was a big part of the Sox bullpen woes last year and I for one think the team is better served going in another direction.

Baby Fisk: The reason why I was able to remember that it was Riske who gave up Crede's famous bomb was that just before that happened, I remember saying to both the TV and the dog that if the Sox blew that game as well as the lead in the division, I was going to be sick.

But when Crede hit it, I was screaming, cheering and hugging the hell out of the dog. It also helped that Crede is my brother's Sox hero.

Regardless of opposing pitcher, it was/is just a great Sox moment from '05. I think I'm going to treat myself and listen to the sound file of Hawk again.

Why would you buy a Riske jersey?

I liked the gray glove. Other than that, the rather pedestrian David Riske era fades to nothing...

He explained it before. His last name is Riske, and I believe 54 was his football number (?). If a player with my last name came to the Sox I would rush out to get his jersey.

I kinda liked in his first Sox outing, I believe it was the 20-8 demolition of the 84-win champs, after fatboy Sid Ponson hit two straight Sox, Riske wasted no time in drilling a Card.
