View Full Version : Giants fans appear angry at Bonds signing

In San Francisco, the Giants are stunned by how negative reaction has been to Bonds' return, mostly from local press (national media weren't too high on Bonds, either). They now have to convince their perennially loyal fan base that the team didn't simply cave in to a bully. The favored storyline in the Bay Area is that the Giants traded competitiveness for quick cash while Bonds chases Hank Aaron's career home-run record.

I can't confirm this at all. The Giants fans I know (check my location, I'm solidly in Giants territory) are already pretty much already aligned with Barry or should I say, resigned to it. Those who thought Barry was okay to begin with (( I AM NOT , I AM STATING A DOMINANT POSITION HERE)) are still okay with it. The rest of who despise Barry as a cheater, still have little use for the bum.

It's true though. The Giants' PSL expire in 2007. And the All Star Game isnt helping that much(You have to buy Full Season Tix for 2007 AND 2008). Barroid pushing for history is a better sales pitch.
At least they can sell Hank Aaron's ticket(like you think Barroid will hit it anywhere BUT Frisco? It's the onlycity where he wont get booed for 755/756.)

When I saw the Giants at home last April I was just sickened by the "love" the Giants fans had for Barry. The woman who does the PA at ATT Park was just over the top in announcing him.

But my friends in the Bay Area say the act is wearing thin and the fact that the Chronicle reporters are looking at 18 months in the slammer while Bonds walks away clean has changed how many think of Bonds.

Bonds comes to Fenway in the middle of June for the first time. That promises to be one ugly weekend given Barry's comments about the City of Boston even though he has never stepped foot in the city.

Every time this gets discussed on MLB Radio, they say the same thing. The Giants beat reporters say that a majority of Giants fans either don't believe Bonds took steriods, if he did they don't care or they just don't want to hear about it ("don't ask, don't tell").

I love blind faith.

Teal? He testified (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/12/03/BALCO.TMP) under oath that he took steroids but said he believed he was taking flaxseed oil and arthritis balm.

Bonds is a clubhouse cancer, but that's a bad example.

Jeff Kent is as much of an ******* as Bonds.

Not all that significant to the Bonds debate, just wanted to get a shot in at Kent

You mean the comments that Boston is racist?

You don't have to go to Boston to know that's true---pretty much everyone who's been to Boston will verify that.

Who are you kidding fenway - you and I both know that Bonds is going to pull the tactics that his pansy ass has his whole career and suddenly have an pulled this-or-that and either not make the trip or sit in the dugout the whole series - ala Sammy Sosa on the Orioles coming back to USC.

I'd say a mod needs to reign this one in - starting to talk politics here. No one likes to hear Antarctica-bashing here.

Boston has gotten a bad rap over the years especially after the forced busing riots. The climate now is much better than it was, far from perfect but better. But I can say the same thing about Chicago. People don't avoid the Southside because the White Sox play there. Every city has warts.

Saying that every city has received a bad rap in the past = ok.

Implying that the Southside of Chicago is a Wart in a conversation about ethnicity = not so good a thing to say.

I agree with you 100%. But it is also a fact that there is a perception about the Southside that many refuse to shake. I know people from the Northside that will not travel past Roosevelt on the Red Line. It is sad but unfortunately true.

As a former resident, consider it verified.

How can that be? Borat never made it to Boston.

There are racists everywhere, including the player we are talking about in this thread.

More Bonds nonsense:

When it was suggested the racial climate has changed in Boston, Bonds demurred.
"It ain't changing," he said. "It ain't changing nowhere."
They built a tunnel to honor Ted Williams in Boston. What did he imagine would be built for him?
"Nothing, man," he said. "I'm black. They don't build stuff for blacks."

Perhaps Bonds didn't notice the 9 foot statute of his godfather (http://sfphototour.tripod.com/images/ballpark-5.jpg) at the front of SBC Park or the fact his home runs land in McCovey (http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/hofer_bios/images/McCovey_Willie_3.jpg) Cove (http://www.orangephotography.com/images/full/2/03.25.2005.1.jpg) or the fact that their greatest rival has a number retired (http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/hofer_bios/robinson_jackie.htm) in San Francisco.

Bonds rather offer excuses as to why nobody wants to honor him rather than address the real reason why nobody wants to honor him including Hank Aaron (http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/hofer_bios/aaron_hank.htm) who refuses to attend the 756 ceremony. Barry Bonds is an embarrassment to MLB regardless of his skin color and the fact that the city which tolerates just about anything is done with his cheating ass speaks volumes.

Come on everyone, let's be nice to Skotty. He's mourning the loss of Ross Gload this week.

I think Skotty was joking (hence the teal question). If not, he needs to reexamine the evidence to date (something Bud Selig and Sen. Mitchell are still dragging their feet on).

I am certain Skotty will be cheering the White Sox during all 162 games this season including the 18 against Ross Gload's vagabond KC crew. People are letting off some steam this weekend which I don't have a problem (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1443435&postcount=48) with.

OTOH, I do have a problem with Bonds who compromised the game I spend many hours watching / listening to as well as Selig during this whole debacle including his weak non-comprehensive, non-independent testing which is a complete joke. I hope Hank Aaron remains the home run king until a time when A Rod or Pujols are able to legitimately pass him.

I have been to the Antarctic Ocean and I can tell you it is cold. It was January, the sun was up for quite a few hours of the day and yet the air was crisp and when the seas kicked up they were really cold.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I talked to a couple of Giants fans today and nobody over eight years of age thinks Barry didn't take steroids. Some don't care, some think a lot of other players did and some think he's done such great things that Barry deserves a pass. As if baseball wanted Aaron's record broken , I think it's the most 'sacred' of all baseball records and hate that this bum is getting a shot at it.

As for him being a clubhouse cancer, I think that is overwrought. Barry is 100% teammate on the field. Ideally, he'd be a better guy when not playing, but that's of secondary importance.
