“I have a name people in the industry recognize,” Maier said. “There’s nothing I can do about that. I can’t change what happened when I was 12. If it gets my résumé on someone’s desk, I can’t control that, either. I’m not marketing myself that way.”

Maier is marketing himself with a 42-page scouting booklet he prepared this summer as an assistant to ESPN’s Peter Gammons. Maier combed the Cape Cod League and compiled detailed reports on each prospect.

I'm sure you noticed that the front page of yesterday's NY Times featured pics of both Jeff Maier and Jets coach Eric Mangini, two Wesleyan grads.

NESCAC rocks.

Cushman (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0322339/): I gotta tell you, you are the complete opposite of every applicant we've seen. Mr. Steinbrenner, sir. There's someone here I'd like you to meet. This is Mr. Costanza. He is one of the applicants.

George Steinbrenner (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0202970/): Nice to meet you.

George Costanza (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004517/): Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years, you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego.

George Steinbrenner (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0202970/): Hire this man!
