PEORIA, Ill. -- Former Chicago Cub Ryne Sandberg has been picked to manage the Peoria Chiefs.

The job with the Single-A team will be the first managerial position for the 47-year-old, who was a 10-time National League All-Star. The Cubs announced his hiring Tuesday.

What geniouses the cubs are for bringing back former players to coach and manage in the organization! Dernier, Davis, now Sandbag. How original!

Maybe Durham can come back as the roving drug counselor!

I wish KW would have thought of that!

I wish him well and good luck. He won't be managing against Kannapolis or Winston-Salem so hope he wins every game.

I hope to see Ryno manage against the Kane County Cougars, who I've been getting 5 or 7 game season ticket packages for at least the last 10 years now, so I hope he doesn't!

The Swing of the Quad Cities also play the KC Cougars. They have some pretty cool uniforms, too!

I wish Ryne Sandberg the best in his managerial pursuit; he's a helluva nice guy and was a great baseball player.

I can't wait to see what this logo is going to be like

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are a new Minor League Baseball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_League_Baseball) team, serving as the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Phillies)

Those uni's and hats kicked ass! I got a nice hat on a giveaway night and always wore it. You couldn't even pay me to wear one of those Swing hats with the Saxophone on it. Seriously, have you ever seen anybody wearing a Swing hat around town? I don't even see them worn by fans when I go to the games.

Acording to their website (http://www.ironpigsbaseball.com/) its being "developed" by a "branding" company...which means that it will probably be as forgettable as 99% of every other minor (and some major) league logos today.

I do have to give them credit for the nickname though -- symbolic, memorable and even a little funny.

As for Ryno, I wish him NO ill will, but many superstars make lousy managers. Then again, you could debate on his status as a "superstar"...

Good for him. I'll be catching a few games at Fifth Third in Grand Rapids this year - maybe I'll see him.

I don't think it will be too hard for Sandberg to win in Peoria. Just look at some of the names that are sure to be logging innings for him later on this summer: Prior...Wood...Wade Miller...hell, maybe even Zambrano will show up, just for the fun of it all.
