December 4, 1957 - In a trade that shocked and outraged many Sox fans, popular outfielder "Minnie" Minoso and infielder Fred Hatfield were traded to the Indians for future Hall of Fame pitcher Early Wynn and outfielder Al Smith. Wynn and Smith were among the final pieces acquired for the franchise that would win the pennant in 1959.

December 4, 1997 - Jerry Manuel is named as the team’s new field manager replacing Terry Bevington. Manuel becomes the second minority manager of the franchise in team history. In his seven years, the Sox would go to the playoffs in 2000 and have three winning seasons. He’d be named Manager of the Year for his efforts in winning the Central Division in 2000.

Billy Pierce was at the WCSF Holiday Party today and said that Minnie has been in and out of the hospital recently but appears to be okay now. That's certainly good news for all his fans.

Lip Lopez wanted these two guys from his Cleveland days, but he particularly wanted Wynn. His loyalty to Wynn hurt the Sox chances in the 59 World Series.

As bad as he was, Manuel somehow managed to be worse.
