View Full Version : WSI Fest 2007: What Date(s) Do You Prefer?

Well, Kurt Hasenbalg got promoted, and I received an email today from our new group sales rep, Stephanie Furlan. The Sox aren't going to start selling patio party tickets until after the first of the year, but she said that if we gave her some dates before then, we can secure our seats and get things rolling.

So here are my questions:

1) Do we want a week day/night game or a weekend game?

2) Who do we want to see?

Remember, if they're still doing half-price Mondays it'll save each of us a few bucks. In addition, the higher the ticket prices for a team, the higher the patio party rate. Also remember April/May dates and dates against lousy teams generally are easier to get tickets for, although if we're early enough, we can probably get whatever we can agree to.

If you need to see a Sox schedule for 2007, check it out (and ticket prices) at whitesox.com.

I'd like to be able to get back to her in the next couple of weeks.

If we can get a Sunday day game, it is probably the only way I can attend, unless it is a Saturday day game in April or March.

May I humbly and selfishly recommend the Oakland series, May 21-23?

I plan to be in town during that week as I'm one of the groomsmen in my sister's wedding the following weekend.

Incidentally, I actually am considering putting together a Sox patio party for Sunday, May 27 (to celebrate the wedding, my dad's 60th birthday and my grandmother's 90th birthday) against the Devil Rays. (It's just a matter of convincing enough relatives that a patio party would be more fun than yet another lame banquet or a picnic in a mosquito and yellow jacket-infested forest preserve.)

Or, how about combining both WSI Fest and my family shindig on Sunday, May 27?

I should remind everybody, we don't need to limit ourselves to one date. Remember we put together two of these last year.

I went to COTC 1, and had part of my ozzie plan for CoTc 2, other end of the park, but me and kate would be in again. It was a blast. I wuld say deff a night game, a friday or saturday fireworks promotion would be awesome because we could chill afterwards for a while.

No.

Excellent. If there's going to be one between early June and late August I'd try and show up.

Weekends would be ideal for me.

And not against the Cubs, please. I can't deal with those people.

Being a teacher, I obviously prefer something in the summertime, but any time during the season is fine with me. I made both COTC (September '05) and COTC II (May '06), and even though it's tough to get down there with traffic during the week, I can pretty much make any day happen. :bandance:

A weekend. Any weekend works for me.

Just looking at the schedule, ones that would be decent:

May 21 vs. Oak (Monday)
June 4 vs. NYY (Monday)
June 22-24 vs. Cubs (Weekend)
July 6-8 vs. MIN (Weekend)
July 23 vs. DET (Monday)
July 27-29 vs. TOR (Weekend)

I'd probably put the NYY and Cubs game on the top of the list for me. I don't know how hard it would be to get those games, but half price on the ticket for NYY and easy access to Cubs-Sox tickets would be nice. Perhaps either NYY/Cubs and DET/TOR as two different dates to have WSI Fest.

I now work on the night shift, so I prefer a day game, or a game that falls on one of my "days off"(Mon/Tues night).
I'm also a cheapskate. I think a game in april/may or a monday is a better choice. And, there should be a lot of weekend day games in both those months.

I had a great time at COTC II, met a bunch of terrific WSIers, and would definitely try to make it in for another one. But as a wimpy, thin-blooded Arizonan, I'd prefer you avoid April and early May. Last year it was mid-May, and I still froze my ass off!

Stop being difficult.

I vote April 27th-the return of Joe Crede and Freddy Garcia. It's also a Friday.

Why the love for Oakland? Frank is with the Jays now. The premium games (Yanks, Cubs, etc.) will be the most expensive for us, even with the group discount. As a ST holder, I would love it to be the Yanks or Cubs, etc because I can sell my personal tickets on the White Sox Ticket Exchange for big $$$ and still have a seat in the lower bowl.

A group outing in warm weather is always more fun. I remember some April night games that felt like Bears' games. I only suggested 4/27 because of the impending trade of Crede and Gacia to the Halos. The Angels return September 14-16 (Friday-Sunday). That could be a very very important/exciting series given when it takes place. Perhaps WSI Fest 2007 Part Deux for that series?

I could only go if it is on a weekend unless it is during the end of June or all of July. Then I can go anytime. We have year-round school, so I go back the first week of August.

I'd love to do something like this. I am planning a trip up there in May and I think it'd be wonderful to finally meet some WSI'ers. Maybe if it's done a little later than that I can make it then. Who knows. Nothing is set in stone yet as to when I'm coming.

Okay, if you haven't been to the ****house, the crisis is over. We're just going to do things a little differently this year. Since there is the possibility of one or more people planning to disrupt WSI Fest, we're going to make it a little more difficult for that to happen. In order to attend, you have to send a flyer. To do so, you're going to have to PM me when I announce that they are available. It's a little more inconvenient that way, but that's what you have to do sometimes to make things work.

I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

I may have asked this before, but I've forgotten the answer, and after checking out the ****house, things might have changed anyway.

It sounds like a blast, but how kid-friendly are these get-togethers? Are kids even welcome? I have two little davenicholsons who will be 13 and 8 next year respectively, and if it is a drunken brawl, I respect that but would not want to subject their little ears to the language Daddy reserves to use when they are not around.

Dave,

I was at WSI Fest last August. It was a blast. Of course, it helped that the Sox beat the snot out of the Royals (Brian Andereson made me 1 for 1 in choosing picks to click. I've since retired to the PTC HOF with my perfect 1.000 winning percentage.)

My wife and I got a little lubricated, but I don't recall any coarse language or lewd, objectionable behavior. I specifically remember that FielderJones brought his wife and son, and I don't believe anything happened that scared them away. My wife has a very low tolerance for drunken stupidity and boorishness (even when she is buzzing), and she didn't have any complaints. Wilkes kept the Drinking Team in line for the most part, and Mrs. Wilkes kept Wilkes in line, even when we were heckling the Royals bullpen.
:D:

Overall, everyone was well-behaved.

I hope we both can make it.

I would have no problem bringing my son to these events (and he's only a year old). We didn't take him last year because mommy and daddy wanted to unwind and get a break from the little one.

It is a baseball game so you're going to run into drunks cursing up a storm regardless. It certainly isn't a "drunken brawl" but WSI represents a slice of "average" baseball fans which unfortunately includes those that have problems watching their language.

Thanks, Frater, that helps a lot. My daughter has been bugging me to take her to a Sox game ever since the neighbor scored some free tickets for my son and me last year, and this sounds like a great opportunity to bring the whole family (even Mrs. davenicholson!). It would be great to meet you and your wife, and I promise: NO POLITICS! Besides, Mrs. davenicholson would smack me in the head before I would be even be able the get the second foot atop the soapbox anyway!:redneck

Opponent doesn't matter, but if input is still being solicited, we would prefer summertime or else a weekend so the little ones can attend, and (selfishly) not the week of 7/28 - 8/4, when we will be on vacation. Thanks!

One thing we probably should consider is whether or not we want to commit to more than one date. Last year we had both COTC and WSI Fest. I think we showed last year that WSI can stand alone and put pretty decent numbers in the seats for more than one. The question is, would you guys like to do a couple of them...perhaps one on a Monday night and one on a weekend, one in May-June, the other in August-September?

Monday and Wed. Nights are guranteed the discounted rate.($10 off the patio party).
Same rate applies to games in April/May
So as many of those as possible. Also, we'll get a better shot at lower deck tickets.
Hell, I'd do a game a month on the mondays.

I am in, but just to add my .o2 worth, I am coming from Iowa, and although I can take a day off of work, it is hard for me to get home at a decent time and haul my ass in to work the next day. Although, I guess if I know far enough in advance, I can always take PTO. Whatever is the easiest and provides for the best seating, I am game. :D:
