Happy Birthday to Dan Spillner, who pitched for the Sox in 1984 and 1985.

RIP to Ed Fernandes, who caught in 32 games for the 1946 Sox.

Spillner was one of only three pitchers in White Sox history to score a run during the DH era before interleague play. Spillner scored as a pinch-runner on June 23, 1984 in joining Ron Scheuler (May 27, 1978) and Richard Dotson (May 8-9, 1984) as Sox twirlers to cross the plate in the years between 1973 and 1996.

Fernandes is just one of seven switch-hitting catchers in the 106-year history of the franchise. The others: George Dickey (1941-42, 1946-47), Joe Sudgen (1901), Ken Silvestri (1939-40), Chad Kreuter (1996-98), Ben Davis (2004) and Raul Casanova (2005).
