Doug Davis going to the D'backs and Estrada going to the Berwers. Thoughts?

You'd think the D-Backs would have learned to never make a large multiplayer trade with the Brewers after they got burned on the Sexson deal.

Vargas can really look like a stud sometimes, and Aquino, when healthy, has some evil, filthy stuff. Neither of these guys has put it all together yet though, and Davis has, so the Brewers were obviously looking at upside and player control, whereas the Dbacks wanted a good veteran pitcher.

Definitely a win-now move for the Brewers. Giving up on the potential of Eveland and whatever potential Krynzel has left for serious upgrade at C and a decent arm for the pen.

Vargas and Davis are essentially a wash at their 2006 numbers, with Vargas two years younger. Plus, Davis couldn't find the new strike zone all year, and I don't know if he will be able to adjust like Glavin had this year with the Mets.

This looks like a pretty good deal for the Brewcrew

Here's Rotoworld.com's take on the whole deal:

The Diamondbacks have reportedly acquired Doug Davis, Dana Eveland and David Krynzel from the Brewers for Johnny Estrada, Claudio Vargas and Greg Aquino.

We have to give the edge to the Diamondbacks here. Even though he's just one year away from free agency, Davis qualifies as the most valuable property in the deal. Estrada should be an upgrade over Damian Miller, but he's not a huge one. The bigger upgrade is that the Brewers won't have to rely on a weak backup for 50 games. Of the other four players, Eveland is probably the best bet for the future. Vargas is a reasonable fifth starter, but that's all he is. Aquino still has a chance to be a decent setup man. Krynzel has lost almost all of his value and shouldn't make an impact in the crowded Arizona outfield. Nov. 25 - 3:16 pm et
