The Pirates and Rockies have reportedly discussed swapping Brad Hawpe and Paul Maholm.
Apparently, it's the Rockies who want more, even though they seemed thrilled with Jeff Baker in September. The Pirates aren't going to give up Zach Duke, but they could part with Tom Gorzelanny for Hawpe. The Rockies would be getting more upside in return, but Gorzelanny is also at greater risk for arm problems.

Jump on it KW. Hawpe had fantastic home/road splits last season, and would look great in LF next season. Let's get a three way going with SF and get Vizquel and Hawpe.

What a lineup...

Omar
Iguchi
Thome
Konerko
Dye
Hawpe
Crede
AJ
Anderson

I like Hawpe also and he does bat left, however that lineup 3-8 would be very slow again. I don't really like the idea of Omar batting leadoff or on our team for that mater IMO.

That lineup 1-9 would be very slow, perhaps the slowest in the big leagues.

And it would be an incredible lineup, much better than one that included Figgins, Pierre, Gathright, Owens, or any other token fast guy.

I don't think Hawpe is ready to hit between Dye and Crede just yet...it's very difficult to project Rockies hitters because of stadiums and NL pitching.

It might be worth a look, and it would be a move for a cheaper and younger player...but we really have to sell Pods and Uribe hard to get someone to bite.

 Sure it would be incredible, but I kinda want to get away from the 04 longball philosophy. We need speed and contact hitters, we got more then enough big sticks.
